Job summary

Dell Medical School seeks a board-certified Physician Assistant to support expansion of cardiovascular services by diagnosing and treating adult cardiovascular and thoracic conditions, mainly in the operating room. You will obtain histories, perform assessments, order and interpret studies, provide prescriptive care or referrals, counsel patients and families, and document care.

Must hold Texas Medical Board licensure with Prescriptive Authority and have at least 1 year of cardiothoracic first

• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment with minimal guidance.

• Equivalent education/experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Responsibilities

Job description

Purpose:

In collaboration with supervising physicians, provides for the expansion of individualized healthcare services by diagnosing and treating adult cardiovascular and thoracic conditions.

Clinical Responsibilities:

• Operating Roombased Physician Assistants will primarily work assisting in the cardiovascular operating room.

• Obtains patient history and performs assessment via observation, interview, and examination. Orders, performs and interprets diagnostic studies. Performs health assessments, screening, and patient care.

• Provides direct treatment and management of conditions via prescriptive authority or referral to other healthcare providers or community resources.

• Counsels and educates patients and their families/caregivers concerning health conditions, treatment options and community resources.

• Documents delivery of health care and nursing processes in accordance with specific specialty area standards and network nursing policy.Participates in orientation and education of staff and students.

• Other related functions as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• A board-certified Physician Assistant in good standing and credentialed by the Texas Medical Board with Prescriptive Authority and minimum 1 year experience in cardiothoracic surgical first assisting with proficiency in endoscopic and open conduit harvest.

• Ability to work efficiently and flexibly in a fast-paced environment with minimal guidance.

• Ability to address individuals and information with a high degree of sensitivity and confidentiality in various situations.

• Capacity to work well with physicians and other care providers as part of a multi-disciplinary healthcare delivery team.

Salary Range:

$140,000+ depending on qualifications
