Job summary

Dell Medical School is seeking a board-certified Physician Assistant to support cardiovascular and thoracic care in collaboration with supervising physicians. The role focuses on expanding individualized services for adults with complex heart and chest conditions in a fast-paced setting.

You will assist in the operating room, take histories, perform assessments, order and interpret diagnostics, and provide direct treatment under prescriptive authority.

Qualifications

• Board-certified Physician Assistant with Prescriptive Authority.
• Minimum 1 year of cardiothoracic surgical first assisting experience.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.
• Capacity to handle sensitive information with confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the cardiovascular operating room under supervision.

Purpose:

In collaboration with supervising physicians, provides for the expansion of individualized healthcare services by diagnosing and treating adult cardiovascular and thoracic conditions.

Clinical Responsibilities:

• Operating Roombased Physician Assistants will primarily work assisting in the cardiovascular operating room.
• Obtains patient history and performs assessment via observation, interview, and examination. Orders, performs and interprets diagnostic studies. Performs health assessments, screening, and patient care.
• Provides direct treatment and management of conditions via prescriptive authority or referral to other healthcare providers or community resources.
• Counsels and educates patients and their families/caregivers concerning health conditions, treatment options and community resources.
• Documents delivery of health care and nursing processes in accordance with specific specialty area standards and network nursing policy.Participates in orientation and education of staff and students.
• Other related functions as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• A board-certified Physician Assistant in good standing and credentialed by the Texas Medical Board with Prescriptive Authority and minimum 1 year experience in cardiothoracic surgical first assisting with proficiency in endoscopic and open conduit harvest.
• Ability to work efficiently and flexibly in a fast-paced environment with minimal guidance.
• Ability to address individuals and information with a high degree of sensitivity and confidentiality in various situations.
• Capacity to work well with physicians and other care providers as part of a multi-disciplinary healthcare delivery team.
• Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Salary Range:

$140,000+ depending on qualifications
