Job summary

BJC HealthCare in Missouri is seeking a Certified Nurse Assistant to provide direct patient care on the surgical unit under nursing supervision. The role emphasizes patient safety and compassionate care during night shifts.

Responsibilities include helping patients with ADLs, monitoring vitals, documenting care activities, and supporting nurses in patient education while ensuring supplies and equipment are available for each patient’s needs.

Qualifications

• Preferred experience as CNA, nurse assistant, EMT, or surgical technician.
• Must be able to work nights and maintain patient safety.
• Certification as a CNA is preferred or required.

Responsibilities

• Implements direct patient care under the supervision of the nurse, promoting patient and family centered care in a healing environment.
• Administers or assists patients with ADLs, performs vital signs, intake & output, fall and pressure ulcer prevention, urinary catheter care, phlebotomy, or point of care testing.
• Collects clinical data and information on patients, and reports changes in patient status to the nurse.
• Assists nurse with patient and family education. Documents all patient care activities with correct medical terminology.
• Ensures availability of supplies and equipment to meet each patient's needs.

Northwest HealthCare, six miles west of Christian, offers 24- hour emergency care, the Sleep Disorders Center and a variety of outpatient diagnostic and imaging services.

The 6th floor is the adult surgical unit with a 52 bed capacity. There are 16 semi-private rooms. The unit has cardiac telemetry monitoring capability for 12 beds. There is a treatment room available. A surgical waiting room is located on the west end of the unit. Any semi-private room can be made private for isolation purposes or to accommodate patient requests. A wide variety of adult and geriatric patients are cared for on the surgical unit. They specialize in general, vascular, thoracic, gynecological, and urological surgery. The unit includes patients with infections, wound care and those requiring isolation. an Enterostomal Therapist is available to assist in teaching new ostomy patients, marking pre-surgical ostomy patients as well as facilitating car of patients with draining wounds or managing skin problems.

Role Purpose

Provides direct patient care to support the licensed professional nurses responsible for a team of patients to ensure a safe environment for patients by reducing risk of harm. Collects vital information on the patient and reports such to the nursing team which contributes to the overall assessment of each patient and any changes to a patient's condition.

Responsibilities

• Implements direct patient care under the supervision of the nurse, promoting patient and family centered care in a healing environment. Administers or assists patients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), performs vital signs, intake & output, fall and pressure ulcer prevention measures, urinary catheter care, phlebotomy, or point of care testing as requested.
• Collects clinical data and information on patients, and reports changes in patient status to the nurse.
• Assists nurse with patient and family education. Documents all patient care activities provided with correct medical terminology. Acts as 1:1 patient safety sitter as necessary.
• Ensures availability of supplies and equipment to meet each patient's needs.
• Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality and regulatory compliance. Participates in professional development.
