Job summary

IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, Indiana, seeks an experienced Community Surgical Pathologist with strong diagnostic skills in surgical pathology and cytopathology. The role supports a growing team within a major academic-affiliated health system and offers subspecialty opportunities.

The pathologist will provide diagnoses, participate in tumor boards, and supervise FNAs with ROSE, while collaborating with colleagues across the IU Health Laboratory System.

Qualifications

  • Doctorate or terminal degree (MD, DO, or equivalent) required.
  • Board certification by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic Pathology or Anatomic and Clinical Pathology.
  • Completion of a Surgical Pathology Fellowship or equivalent experience.
  • Eligibility for medical licensure in Indiana.
  • Cytopathology experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide diagnoses of benign and malignant conditions, including tumor grading and staging.
  • Interpret intraoperative consultations (e.g., frozen sections).
  • Correlate histopathologic findings with clinical, radiologic, and laboratory data.
  • Prepare and sign out pathology reports in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary tumor boards and clinical case discussions.
  • Ensure quality assurance and compliance with laboratory standards (CAP, CLIA).
  • Interpret cytologic specimens, including Pap smears, FNA, and body fluids.
  • Provide diagnostic consultations to clinicians and participate in multidisciplinary case reviews.
  • Perform and supervise FNAs, including ROSE.
  • Provide on-call coverage and conference support with department faculty.
