Job description

Surgical Oncologist | Hepatopancreatobiliary & GI Oncology
Lee Health Cancer Institute | Fort Myers, Florida

This opportunity is designed for a surgical oncologist seeking to build a high-complexity HPB and GI oncology practice within a large, integrated regional cancer institute that offers established partners, multidisciplinary support, a strong referral base, and the ability to grow a focused clinical program in Southwest Florida.

Lee Health Cancer Institute is recruiting a fellowship-trained surgical oncologist to join three established surgical oncologists within a multidisciplinary cancer program. The practice focuses on pancreatic, hepatobiliary, and gastrointestinal malignancies, with no responsibility for breast surgery.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to help expand HPB and GI surgical oncology services for a growing Southwest Florida population while working within an established cancer institute rather than building from scratch.

Opportunity Highlights

Collaborative team: Join experienced surgical oncologists in a collegial, team-based practice.

Clinical focus: Establish a high-complexity surgical oncology practice within an established regional cancer program.

Clinical infrastructure: Dedicated APP support, oncology navigation, multidisciplinary tumor boards, and a dedicated inpatient oncology unit enable coordinated cancer care.

Specialty support: Advanced endoscopy and interventional radiology provide essential support for complex HPB and GI cancers.

Integrated treatment platform: The program offers comprehensive medical oncology and advanced radiation therapy, including proton therapy.

Referral strength and scale: Lee Health Cancer Institute manages approximately 6,900 analytic cancer cases annually and is supported by a regional network that includes a medical group of 1,200+ physicians and providers, creating a substantial foundation for referrals and practice growth.

The position offers access to complex operative care, supported by established inpatient, outpatient, and procedural resources, with practice details discussed confidentially based on the candidate's background and program needs.

Candidate Profile

Candidates should have completed or be completing an accredited general surgery residency and fellowship training in Complex General Surgical Oncology, and be board certified or board eligible in general surgery.

Experienced surgical oncologists who have demonstrated the ability to build and sustain a busy, complex oncology practice are especially encouraged to apply. Outstanding fellows and recent graduates with strong training, clinical maturity, and clear potential for practice growth are also encouraged to apply.

Robotic surgical experience and a commitment to multidisciplinary cancer care are valued.

Physicians interested in program development, quality improvement, clinical collaboration, and the growth of regional cancer care will find a supportive environment for long-term professional contributions.

Compensation and Benefits

Lee Health offers a competitive compensation package that supports both immediate transition and long-term professional growth, including uncapped incentives, sign-on and relocation bonuses, generous time off, comprehensive benefits, CME support, and eligibility for Public Service Loan Forgiveness.
