Job summary

AdventHealth in Kansas is seeking a Surgical Assistant to position patients for optimal exposure, protect nerves, and collaborate with anesthesia to maintain temperature during procedures. You will set up equipment, assist with hemostasis, and participate in closure and dressings, ensuring patient safety and smooth OR flow.

The role requires excellent English, basic computer skills, and the ability to work with diverse teams on complex cases in a fast-paced surgical environment.

Qualifications

• Read, write and speak conversational English.
• Basic computer skills and MS Office.
• Regulatory, compliance and accreditation knowledge.
• Effective communication with patients, families and health care teams.
• Proficient in at least 2 surgical specialties (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Position patients for optimal surgical exposure and ensure safety.
• Pad pressure points and guard against nerve damage.
• Collaborate with anesthesia to maintain patient temperature.
• Set up operative positions and use C-arm extensions.
• Evaluate post-procedure for positioning-related issues and report.
• Provide visualization of operative site with retractors and tissue handling.
• Assist with hemostasis and transfusion techniques.
• Assist with closure of body planes as directed.
• Apply wound dressings and secure drainage systems.
• Prepare operating room and scrub for procedures.
