The role requires formal surgical assisting training and licensure. The position emphasizes collaboration with anesthesia, nurses, and physicians, with emphasis on patient safety and adherence to ASA standards.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a CAAHEP-accredited surgical assisting program and CSFA credential.
• BLS certification required.
• 1 year of OR experience; ambulatory surgery center preferred.
• Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA) credential.
• Valid BCLS certification on employment (online not acceptable).

Responsibilities

• Assist the surgeon as first/second assistant during operative procedures, including exposure and hemostasis.
• Communicate with the surgeon prior to cases to determine needs and relay information to the team.
• Assist with patient positioning, skin prep, and draping per protocol.
• Support rapid turnover by restocking and changing over rooms between cases.
• Aid in achieving efficient procedures while minimizing patient exposure to surgical and anesthetic stress.
• Assist with suction, irrigation, and sponging to facilitate hemostasis.
• Assist with skin or external suturing and stapling under surgeon guidance.
