Job summary

Lake Charles Memorial Hospital is seeking a qualified Surgical First Assistant to work under the surgeon and with the team to ensure safe operations and optimal patient outcomes in the operating room.

Responsibilities include first or second assisting, circulating, scrubbing, passing instruments, providing hemostasis, and mentoring staff; strong teamwork and communication are essential. Candidates should have an Accredited Surgical First Assistant program (RNFA/CFA/CSA) and BLS; ACLS preferred.

Qualifications

• Successful completion of Accredited Surgical First Assistant program (RNFA, CFA or CSA).
• BLS required; ACLS preferred.

Responsibilities

• An integral member of the team who maintains positive working relationships with patients, families and coworkers.
• Ability to perform all surgical skills as a 1st and/or 2nd assistant in surgical procedures.
• Provide surgical site exposure, handling and/or cutting of tissues and providing hemostasis.
• Pass instruments to surgeons during surgery and assist with moving and positioning patients.
• Serve as a mentor/preceptor and assist in training others in team development.
