The Surgical Assistant plays a critical role in providing exceptional patient care, ensuring the best clinical outcomes, and meeting patient needs.

Role and Responsibilities

The Surgical Assistant will assist surgeons during procedures by performing duties such as tissue retraction, managing intravenous lines, and completing documentation.

  • Perform preoperative and postoperative duties to facilitate patient care.
  • Verify patient identity and operative sites.
  • Discuss surgical procedures with the surgeon, including consent and operative exposure methods.
  • Maintain aseptic technique throughout procedures.
  • Keep an unobstructed operative field using surgical retractors, sponges, and suctioning and irrigating equipment.
  • Ensure availability of necessary equipment and supplies for surgeries.
  • Inspect and prepare sterile and non-sterile surgical equipment, supplies, and instruments.
  • Operate sterilization devices.
  • Monitor intraoperative patient status.
  • Obtain dental radiographs and imaging.
  • Complete patient clinical narratives.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • BLS certification required or ability to obtain within 1 month of hire.
  • At least one year of oral surgery experience required.
  • DAANCE certification preferred.
  • Licensed dental assistant preferred.
  • Radiology certification preferred.

  • Ability to work well independently and in a team.
  • Good judgment and critical thinking skills.
  • Passion for patient safety.
  • Strong attention to detail and meticulousness.
  • Excellent manual dexterity.
