Job summary

CHRISTUS Health is seeking a surgery attendant to support efficient patient flow and safe care in the unit. Under supervision, you will transport patients and equipment, prepare beds and stretchers, and provide warm, informative interactions with patients and families.

The role includes assisting with surgical positioning and transfers under RN direction, restocking supplies, and ensuring equipment is functioning. A high school diploma is preferred and BLS certification is required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• 1 year of experience in a hospital setting preferred.
• BLS required.

Responsibilities

• Transports patients and equipment using appropriate standard precautions.
• Cleans and makes ready beds, stretchers and wheelchairs for patient transfer.
• Presents self to other staff, patients, families and visitors in a warm, receptive manner.
• Assists with surgical patient positioning, transfer, cast application and removal under the direction of the RN.
• Retrieves and delivers items to other departments. Responds promptly to assignments and requests.
• Assists nursing staff in maintaining high standards of nursing practice by facilitating a prompt response to patient needs.
• Restocks supplies, cleans/defrosts refrigerators, cleans equipment and maintains orderly environment.
• Assures patient transfer and transport equipment is functioning properly.
• Functions as a surgical team member.
• Demonstrates competence to perform assigned responsibilities in a manner that meets population-specific and developmental needs.
• Appropriately adapts assigned assessment, treatment, and/or service methods to accommodate needs of each member served.

Summary

Under the general supervision of the Nurse Manager and the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse, the surgery attendant performs tasks assisting and facilitating efficient patient flow and safe patient care in the unit.

Responsibilities

• Transports patients and equipment using appropriate standard precautions.
• Cleans and makes ready beds, stretchers and wheelchairs for patient transfer.
• Presents self to other staff, patients, families and visitors in a warm, receptive manner. Provides direction and information to patients and family members. Identifies and obtains language translation as needed.
• Assists with surgical patient positioning, transfer, cast application and removal under the direction of the RN.
• Retrieves and delivers items to other departments. Responds promptly to assignments and requests.
• Assists nursing staff in maintaining high standards of nursing practice by facilitating a prompt response to patient needs.
