Job summary

Intermountain Health in Grand Junction, Colorado is seeking a patient transport professional to support the operating room team. You will transport patients to and from the OR, assist with preparing beds, linens and supplies, and help ensure a clean, organized surgical suite.

This full-time role requires on-call coverage, weekend and holiday shifts, with 40 hours per week and a hourly rate in the posted range.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent, required.
  • Minimum of three (3) months of related experience, required.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate smooth flow of the surgery schedule.
  • Transport and prepare patients for surgery using safe patient handling techniques.
  • Prepare and obtain patient beds, change bed linens, run errands, answer telephones and respond quickly to pages and/or Vocera requests.
  • Accurately anticipate and facilitate room set up for all procedures; providing all necessary equipment.
  • Maintain continuous knowledge of surgery schedule and assist with turnover of surgical suites.
  • Follow proper procedure when picking up blood and blood products and delivering specimens to the lab.
  • Order and stock supplies to maintain adequate par levels.
  • Maintain awareness of supply, linen, fluid and blanket warmer par levels and restock as necessary.
  • Participate in ordering and putting away of supplies e.g. dietary, storeroom and special order items.
  • Judiciously use supplies.
  • Assist in maintaining a safe and efficient environment.
  • Verify and log warmer temperatures.
  • Verify eyewash stations. Maintain utility and equipment rooms.
  • Assure equipment is readily available and in good working order for emergent cases e.g. fracture table.
  • Assist in maintaining an orderly surgical suite by putting away used and unused supplies and equipment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Physical Requirements
  • Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
  • Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.
  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.
  • Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
  • Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc).
  • May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
