Job summary

UMass Memorial Health seeks a Trauma & Acute Care Surgeon to join our growing team in Worcester, MA. This full-time role is based at the University Campus in the Surgery, Division of Trauma and Surgical Critical Care, with a Level I trauma center and comprehensive ICU support.

The successful candidate will participate in academic medicine, teaching medical students, residents and APPs, and contribute to clinical research, quality initiatives and injury prevention.

Qualifications

  • Board Certified/Eligible; fellowship in General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care.
  • Interest in academic medicine and teaching medical students, residents, fellows, and APPs.
  • Massachusetts license eligibility or equivalent to practice medicine in MA.
  • Two+ years of trauma/SICU experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide trauma and acute care surgery coverage as part of a growing team.
  • Teach medical students, residents, fellows, and advanced practice providers.
  • Engage in clinical quality projects, research, and injury prevention initiatives.
  • Collaborate with ICU teams across transplant, general surgery, oncology, and neurosurgery.

Hiring Range: $380,000 to $492,000 Please note that the final offer may vary within this range based on a candidate's experience, skills, qualifications, and internal equity considerations Location: Worcester, MA Facility: UMass Memorial Health University Campus Department: Surgery, Division of Trauma and Surgical Critical Care Schedule: Full-Time UMass Memorial Medical Group seeks a Trauma & Acute Care Surgeon to join our growing team. Key Highlights
  • Level I Trauma Center (Adult and Pediatric); approximately 130,000 emergency visits, 5,300 trauma activations, and 2,500 Surgical ICU admissions annually
  • Robust Acute Care Surgery practice with dedicated trauma day/night coverage
  • Surgical intensivist responsibilities across transplant, general surgery, surgical oncology, neurosurgery, and other high-acuity subspecialty patients
  • Three Surgical ICUs with a total of 40 beds located on the University Campus
  • Strong support from a large team of advanced practice providers (NPs and PAs)
  • Highly supportive hospital administration committed to trauma program growth
  • Access to departmental resources and infrastructure for trauma and critical care research
  • Academic appointment commensurate with experience and training through UMass Chan Medical School
  • Division expansion from 7 to 8 surgeons in response to increasing trauma volume
  • Modern technology platforms (e.g., Epic EMR) for seamless communication and workflow efficiency
Qualifications
  • Board Certified/Board Eligible; fellowship training in General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care required
  • Interest in academic medicine, including teaching medical students, residents, fellows, and advanced practice providers
  • Interest in clinical, quality, simulation, and injury prevention research
  • MD or DO degree and qualify for medical Massachusetts license
  • Demonstrated commitment to patient-centered clinical care
  • Two or more years of experience preferred
