Job summary

Princeton Orthopaedic Associates is seeking an experienced Surgical Scheduler to join our Pennington-based team. You will guide patients from their first call through follow-up, coordinating with physicians, patients, and facilities to keep schedules accurate and on time.

You will verify insurance coverage, communicate preparation and post-op details, and maintain meticulous EHR records. This fast-paced role rewards clear communication, organization, and patient-focused care.

Qualifications

  • 2–3 years of orthopaedics scheduling experience.
  • Familiarity with medical billing and coding is desirable.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and phone systems.
  • Experience with health information, workers' comp, motor vehicles is beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate surgical procedures with physicians, patients, and facilities.
  • Maintain and manage surgical schedules with accuracy and timeliness.
  • Communicate surgical instructions and post-op requirements to patients.
  • Verify insurance coverage, eligibility, and benefits for services.
  • Serve as primary contact between patients, surgeons, and facilities.
  • Track surgical authorizations and ensure compliance with authorization team.

  • Perform additional projects and duties as assigned by management.

Salary Range: $21.50 - $27.00 per hour

Job Description:

We are looking for an experienced surgery scheduler to join our team! In this position, you will guide patients with care and clarity, helping them feel informed, supported, and confident from their very first call to their final follow-up.

As a key liaison between the physicians, patients, and external partners, you will manage complex clinic and physician schedules to keep operations running seamlessly. Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate surgical procedures with physicians, patients, and surgical facilities
  • Maintain and manage surgical schedules, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
  • Communicate surgical instructions, preparation details, and post-op requirements to patients
  • Verify insurance coverage, eligibility, and benefits for surgical services
  • Serve as the primary point of contact between patients, surgeons, and operating facilities
  • Track surgical authorizations and collaborate with the authorization team to ensure compliance
  • Maintain accurate patient and surgical documentation within the electronic health record (EHR)
  • Resolve scheduling conflicts or delays and escalate issues as needed
  • Perform additional projects and duties as assigned by management

Required Skills / Abilities:

  • Strong and extensive understanding of medical office best practices, orthopaedic anatomy, surgical terminology and high-volume surgical scheduling
  • Excellent professional communication; adept at handling stressed patients with empathy and composure
  • High-precision data entry to prevent surgical scheduling delays/denials
  • Exceptionally organized, adaptable, and capable of managing heavy patient volume

Experience / Qualifications:

  • At least 2-3 years of previous experience is required (orthopaedics preferred)
  • Familiarity with medical billing and coding practices is highly desirable
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite and phone systems is essential
  • Experience with health information, worker's comp, motor vehicles, and customer service will be beneficial

Compensation & Benefits:

OrthoNJ, LLC is required by New Jersey law to disclose the compensation range for this position. The hiring range for this role is $21.50-$27.00 per hour. Compensation is determined based on several factors, including but not limited to the candidate’s qualifications, relevant experience, and geographic location. Certain roles may also be eligible for additional compensation, such as bonuses or incentive pay, as well as benefits. Eligible full-time employees are offered a comprehensive benefits package, which may include paid time off, medical, dental, vision, and a retirement plan.
