Job summary

Jamestown Regional Medical Center is seeking a Surgery Attendant to maintain a clean, safe environment in The Surgery Center and to perform terminal cleaning at day’s end. You will stock and organize surgical suites to prepare for procedures, while supporting the surgical team with non-clinical tasks.

This full-time, benefitted role schedules 72 hours every two weeks, Monday through Friday from 11:00am to 7:30pm, with no nights, weekends or holidays.

Qualifications

  • Must be able to communicate effectively with the surgical team and other staff.
  • Ability to follow cleaning, sanitation, and safety procedures in a healthcare setting.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are essential.
  • On-the-job training is provided; prior experience in a hospital setting is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Terminally clean the OR, Surgery Center and Sterile Processing at day end and after contaminated surgeries per infection control standards.
  • Assist with rapid turnover of operating rooms between cases.
  • Clean all surfaces, including floors and equipment, between cases.
  • Return equipment to storerooms after case completion.
  • Remove unnecessary supplies from OR suites after cases.
  • Assist in gathering essential equipment and supplies for subsequent procedures.
  • Check basic functionality of equipment and report malfunctions.
  • Dispose of trash, linen, and biohazard waste
  • Restock linens and supplies in the surgical area.
  • Support the OR team with non-clinical tasks to maintain workflow.
  • Maintain an organized and sanitary work environment in surgical suites.
  • Report safety concerns to department leads and follow hospital policies.

This role performs terminal cleaning of The Surgery Center at the end of each day and supports daily operations by ensuring surgical suites are thoroughly cleaned, stocked, and organized for procedures. The Surgery Attendant provides essential non-clinical support to the surgical team but does not perform the duties of a Surgical Technologist or Sterile Processing
Technician.

Full-time, benefitted position scheduled for 72 hours per two-week pay period. Days of work are Monday through Friday from 11:00am to 7:30pm, with no nights, weekends or holidays.

Job Functions

  • Terminally clean the OR, Surgery Center and Sterile Processing at the end of each day and after contaminated surgeries in accordance with established infection control and safety standards.
  • Assist with quick and efficient turnover of the operating rooms between surgical cases.
  • Clean all surfaces, including floors and equipment between cases.
  • Clean and return equipment to storerooms after case completion.
  • Remove unnecessary supplies from OR suites after case completion.
  • Assist in the gathering of essential equipment and supplies for subsequent cases.
  • Check for basic functionality of equipment and report malfunctions.
  • Dispose of trash, linen and biohazard waste throughout the day.
  • Restock linens, supplies, and other necessary items in the surgical area.
  • Assist the OR team with non-clinical tasks to support efficient workflow.
  • Maintain an organized and sanitary work environment in the surgical suites.
  • Report any safety concerns to the department leads.
  • Follow all hospital policies, safety guidelines, and infection prevention procedures.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS POSITION

  • Preparation & Training - High school diploma or equivalent preferred. On the job training
  • Work Experience - Some experience preferred but not required.
  • Attendance - Punctual and regular attendance is an essential responsibility of each employee at JRMC. Employees are expected to report to work as scheduled, on time and prepared to start working. Employees are also expected to remain at work for their entire work schedule.
  • Analytical Ability - Ability to follow cleaning, sanitation, and safety procedures in a healthcare setting. Must have organizational skills. Must be able to prioritize and coordinate multiple tasks.

  • Mental/Visual Effort - Must be able to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner. Must demonstrate physical and emotional ability to meet agreed upon work schedule and performance standards required by the position. Required duties are such that concentrated attention must be applied on demand consistent with manual skill requirements in situations that may at times be stressful. Visual acuity necessary for reading charts and working with medical devices.
  • Working Conditions - Work is performed in a hospital or surgical center operating room environment. Requires standing, walking, bending, and lifting supplies or equipment. Will involve moving equipment as needed.
  • Physical & Sensory Effort - Frequent standing or walking. Lifts, positions, and pushes equipment and supplies. Frequent reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching. Needs finger dexterity when handling specialized equipment/instruments. Requires standing for extended periods of time without relief.
  • Background - A comprehensive background check will be conducted as a condition of employment for this role.
  • Drug Screen - A urine drug screening is required for all positions and must be completed within 30 days of the date of hire.
  • Promotion - No formal line of promotion.
