Job summary

American Vision Partners (AVP) is seeking a Surgery Assistant to support the peri-operative team in a fast-paced, high-volume setting. You will help ensure smooth daily operations, greet patients, assist with pre- and post-operative tasks, and support infection control.

The ideal candidate has a High School diploma or GED, CPR certification, and experience in customer service or medical offices. Ophthalmology experience is a plus; Monday–Friday schedule offered in a safety-sensitive environment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Customer Service experience is required.
• One-year medical office and/or surgery experience preferred.
• CPR certification is required.
• Experience in Ophthalmology is a plus.
• Detail oriented, reliable and able to multi-task in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Flexible schedule Monday-Friday.
• This is a Safety Sensitive position.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients and visitors in a prompt, courteous and helpful manner.
• Assist personnel in pre-op and post-op as directed by surgeon, anesthesia provider and/or nurse.
• Disconnect patient from monitors in pre-op and move to surgery suite, connect to monitors and oxygen.
• Assist with operating room turnover and room closure.
• Provide nourishment to patients as directed by RN.
• Assist pre-op with hooking up patient to monitors.
• Perform tasks to keep surgery flowing smoothly (e.g., making beds, stocking supplies).
• Assist with prepping of the surgical site.
• Make pre- and post-operative patient phone calls as needed.
• Stock patient nourishment refrigerator.
• Report malfunctioning equipment/instruments to supervisor.
• Maintain infection control guidelines.
• Perform any other duties as assigned.

Overview

As a Surgery Assistant, you will bring strong detail orientation and multi-tasking skills to our fast-paced, high-volume environment. You’ll assist the peri-operative team to ensure that surgery proceeds smoothly on a day-to-day basis.

• Makes pre- and post-operative patient phone calls as needed
• Stocks patient nourishment refrigerator
• Reports any malfunctioning equipment/instruments to supervisor
• Maintains infection control guidelines
• Performs any and all duties as assigned

Qualifications

• One-year medical office and/or surgery experience preferred
• CPR certification
