Job summary

Thompson Health is seeking a Surgical Scrub Tech for per diem coverage with rotating day and night shifts, including weekends and holidays. The role requires assisting the Surgeon and First Assistant, maintaining a sterile field, and ensuring instruments are readily available.

On weekends, duties include quality assurance and stocking when surgeries aren’t scheduled. Applicants should have National Surgical Technology certification or NYS credentialing, and a current BLS certification.

Qualifications

• Certification as Surgical Technologist per NYS DOH 2824 or equivalent.
• BLS certification required.

Responsibilities

• Prepare the sterile operative field and assist Surgeon & First Assistant during surgery.
• Maintain confidentiality of patient and staff information.
• Develop and maintain collaborative relationships within the interdisciplinary team.
• On weekend shifts, perform quality assurance work and assist with prepping and stocking when surgeries are not taking place.
• Assist with adherence to patient treatment plans as directed by the RN and collect data for interpretation.
• Provide care appropriate to the age of the patient and uphold CARES values.

Job description

Schedule/Per diem requirements: 64 hours per 8-week time block, rotating between days, and nights, including weekend/holiday requirement. Shifts are typically, 7am-7pm or 7pm-7am.

Pay Range: $26.75 - $34.00, based on experience.

Job Objectives

• To directly assist, within the sterile operative field, the Surgeon & First Assistant during surgery by assuring that a sterile environment is maintained & all necessary surgical instruments/supplies are readily available to the surgeons.
• Actively guards the confidentiality of sensitive information including but not limited to the patients, staff, and the health system.
• The ability to develop & maintain collaborative working relationships with members of the interdisciplinary team.
• On the weekend shift there will also be quality assurance work, prepping and stocking if surgeries are not taking place.
• Adheres and contributes to the patient treatment plan under the direction of the RN, collecting data for the RN to interpret.
• Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient.
• Lives the CARES values.

Key Responsibilities

• Assures a safe and efficient environment is provided for the surgical patient by preparing for each assigned case.
• Assures overall efficiency of department by effectively clearing Operating Room following the case.
• Assures an optimal perioperative environment to meet the needs of the patient.
• Provides appropriate and quality care based on the results of current nursing research and quality improvement monitoring results.
• Demonstrates the ability to work independently and exhibits flexibility in decision making and prioritizing
  assignments.

Requirements:

• National Surgical Technology certification or credentialed/grandfathered by NYS per 1/21/15 DOH regulation (2824)
• BLS Certification required.
• Previous experience as a surgical scrub tech strongly preferred.
• On-call requirements required based on unit needs.

Pay Range: $26.75 - $34.00
