• Diagnose the cause of mechanical failures and disassemble engines and major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, and systems.
• Independently perform repairs and maintenance with little supervision in remote locations.
• Conduct readiness and repair inspections on vehicles and equipment.
• Assist in maintenance of production reports and records; make recommendations to the supervisor.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a SURFACE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC LEADER (TITLE 32), Position Description Number D1287000 and is part of the NC G4, National Guard (G4 - FMS 15 / Manning Doc 5225-014).

Key Responsibilities

As a SURFACE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC LEADER, WL-5801-10, you will assign work orders to specific crewmembers and select workers for various jobs on the basis of knowledge, skills, and abilities; assure that there is enough work to keep the work crew busy; troubleshoot, perform maintenance and major repairs on heavy-duty mobile equipment, combat, tactical and automotive vehicles; troubleshoot equipment and diagnose the cause of mechanical failures; remove and disassemble engines and major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, and fuel, hydraulic, and oil pressure systems; independently perform repairs and maintenance functions with little or no supervision in remote locations; conduct readiness and repair inspections on vehicles and associated equipment supported by the activity; assist in the maintenance of production reports and records, and make recommendations to the supervisor; perform other duties as assigned.
