Job summary

Consumers Energy is seeking a Supervisor Electric Operations to provide planning, direction, regulatory compliance, and oversight for field construction, maintenance, service, and emergency work in the company’s electric network. Responsibilities

  • Influences individuals outside the department regarding policies, practices, and procedures, including design, scheduling, Fleet, Supply Chain, Facilities, Damage Assessment, and related functions.
  • Manages and resolves escalated complaints. Inspects job sites to monitor work progress, plan new assignments, prepare requisitions for operations and maintenance supplies, equipment, and materials, and supervise special projects as required.
  • Responsible for ensuring projects and departmental milestones are achieved within approved budgets.
  • Accountable for work plan adherence and adjustments, including resources, equipment, materials, and coordination with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Leads Daily Operating Reviews and Cross-Functional Weekly Operating Reviews.
  • Oversees tool acquisition, distribution, replacement, and compliance.
  • Manages third-party contract purchase orders and approvals and oversees customer de-energization agreements.
  • Responsible for MPSC and CEO complaint investigations and resolutions.
  • Supervises OM&C bargaining unit employees and safety policies.
  • Participates in operating reviews, problem solving, and Lean improvement initiatives.

Location: This position is onsite at the Battle Creek Service Center located in Battle Creek, MI. The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package is available for those that qualify).

General Summary of Job Responsibilities

The Supervisor Electric Operations provides planning, direction, regulatory compliance and oversight to assure completion of field construction, maintenance, service and emergency work to Company Electric Transmission and Distribution facilities in a safe and cost-effective manner. Responsible for the oversight of a geographical area within a Consumers Energy territory including all electric operations deliverables, LVD deliverables, and employee oversight.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Influences individuals outside the department regarding policies, practices, and procedures, including design, scheduling, Fleet, Supply Chain, Facilities, Damage Assessment, and related functions.
  • Manages and resolves escalated complaints. Inspects job sites to monitor work progress, ensure satisfactory completion, plan new assignments, prepare requisitions for operations and maintenance supplies, equipment, and materials, and supervise special projects as required.
  • Responsible for ensuring projects and departmental milestones are achieved within approved budgets.
  • Accountable for work plan adherence and adjustments, including resources, equipment, materials, and associated coordination with internal stakeholders (Supply Chain, Fleet, Facilities, Engineering, CEM, Corporate Safety, Union Safety, Public Safety, etc.) and external customers (residential, commercial, industrial, and municipal).
  • Leads Daily Operating Reviews and Cross-Functional Weekly Operating Reviews.
  • Has authority for personnel-related actions, including timesheet approval, Estimated Straight Time accounting, CDL Medical Program compliance, apprenticeship program administration, annual Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) training completion, policy and procedure updates, Driver Vehicle Inspection Report (DVIR) compliance, ARCOS administration, on-call and storm restoration resource coordination, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) acquisition, distribution, inspection, testing, and replacement.
  • Oversees tool acquisition, distribution, replacement, and compliance.
  • Manages third-party contract purchase orders and approvals (Hydrovac, Traffic Control, etc.) and oversees customer de-energization agreements.
  • Responsible for MPSC and CEO complaint investigations and resolutions.
  • Supervises OM&C bargaining unit employees. Responsible for ensuring understanding of and adherence to the Corporate Safety Manual, Electric Methods and Procedures Manual, Electric Distribution Manual, MIOSHA standards, OSHA standards, DOT standards, Business Continuity Plans, Code of Conduct, and all employee policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for grievance procedures, conducting safety and disciplinary investigations, and administering associated corrective and disciplinary actions.
  • Utilizes knowledge of departmental processes to ensure goals are achieved. Participates in Daily, Weekly, and Monthly Operating Reviews, Rally Rooms, Problem Solving Events, Safety Health and Guidance Teams, Safety Culture Teams, Fix It Now Teams, Safety Grassroots Teams, and Financial Programs. Maintains an understanding of company and departmental metrics and financials, develops and updates visual management tools, promotes Lean methodology and problem-solving practices, identifies waste elimination opportunities, drives cost savings initiatives, and supports automation efforts.
  • Participates in the zone on-call rotation (average of 12 weeks annually). Serves on-call or is activated for storm restoration efforts to lead Consumers Energy and/or contractor crews (average of 20 occasions annually). Responds to emergent events 24/7 and manages the company's High Load Response process, including compliance with MISO Conservative Operations Guidelines.
  • Performs duties outside normal business hours in addition to regular responsibilities.
