Job summary

Southcoast Health is seeking a Supportive Care Chaplain to provide spiritual support to terminally ill patients and families at the Visiting Nurse Association location in Fairhaven, MA. The role emphasizes collaborative care, pastoral counseling, and participation in program improvements.

A Master’s degree and theology certification are required, with at least one year of relevant patient/family experience. Hours are 40 per week, day shift (8:00am–4:30pm).

Qualifications

• Minimum of one-year experience with patients/families dealing with life-threatening illness and death.
• Fully vaccinated against seasonal influenza and COVID-19, or eligible for exemption with signed statement.

Responsibilities

• Provide spiritual support to terminally ill patients and families.
• Make spiritual assessments considering mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual stresses.
• Direct the spiritual plan of care and liaise with community clergy.
• Participate in performance improvement initiatives and train pastoral care volunteers.

Hours: 40hrs

Shift: Day shift, 8:00am - 4:30pm

Location: Visiting Nurse Association - Fairhaven, MA

**Available to regular status employees who are scheduled to work a minimum of 24 hours.

Under the direction of the Director, Supportive Care Services or designee, provide spiritual support to terminally ill patients and their families. Make spiritual assessments of patients, taking into account mental, emotional, physical and spiritual stresses, and respond with appropriate counseling and care. Other duties include, but are not limited to: directing the spiritual plan of care, acting as a liaison to community clergy, participating in performance improvement initiatives and training pastoral care volunteers.

• Equal to a Masters degree in a related discipline.
• Graduate of accredited seminar or school of theology or appropriate certification in hospital or pastoral ministry.
• Minimum of one-year experience in working with patients/families dealing with life-threatening illness and death.
• Graduate of accredited seminar or school of theology or appropriate certification in hospital or pastoral ministry.
• Must be fully vaccinated against seasonal Influenza and the COVID 19 virus or to be exempt from the requirement for medical or personal reasons by signing a statement certifying you are choosing to be exempt from vaccination once hired

Compensation: Pay rate will be determined based on level of experience.
