Job summary

SpaceX is hiring a Support Technician in Wisconsin to work with management, engineers, welders, and maintenance staff to set up and supervise hot work and confined space activities. The role emphasizes safety, hazard recognition, and collaboration with Environmental Health and Safety.

Qualifications

  • 1+ years of experience in production/manufacturing/construction environments.

  • 1+ years of experience with fire detection systems.

  • Understanding of hot work–generating processes and related hazards.

Responsibilities

  • Set up areas for hot work and confined space entry with management, engineers, welders, fabrication and maintenance personnel, plus contractors.
  • Monitor hot work/confined space entry to identify hazards and mitigate risks per SpaceX policies.
  • Initiate protective actions and evacuate personnel if needed.
  • Check in/out equipment and tools daily with site members.
  • Keep non-essential personnel clear of hot work areas.
  • Collaborate with EHS on hot work/confined space procedures.
  • Understand and operate fire alarms and suppression systems, and fire extinguishers.
  • Assist with hands-on build and fabrication tasks.

Job description

SUPPORT TECHNICIAN

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with management, engineers, leads, welders, fabrication and maintenance personnel, along with contractors, to set up areas for conducting hot work/confined space entry to ensure the safety of the facility, equipment, and personnel
  • Monitor and observe hot work/confined space entry as it is being conducted, and afterwards, to identify and recognize hazardous conditions as early as possible, and mitigate the hazards and conditions in accordance with incident management best practices and SpaceX policies
  • Recognize hazards and initiate protective action; if necessary, ensure the evacuation of all personnel in the event of a fire
  • Check in/out equipment and tools daily with all site members
  • Keep all non-essential personnel clear of all areas conducting hot work
  • Work with Environmental Health and Safety in conducting SpaceX hot work/confined space procedure
  • Understand and operate fire alarms, suppression systems, and the various types of fire extinguishers
  • Assist with various hands-on build and fabrication tasks

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 1+ years of experience supporting operations in a production, manufacturing, or construction environment

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate
  • Previous knowledge and/or understanding of codes, rules, regulations, and standards of electrical and mechanical equipment
  • OSHA-certified Fire Prevention Safety Training
  • 1+ years of experience working with fire detection systems
  • Ability to identify and implement efficient paths of action to finish the assigned work
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment
  • Ability to read and understand technical manuals and reports
  • Ability to use precision measuring instruments
  • An understanding of hot work–generating processes including cutting, grinding, welding, etc., and the hazards associated with these processes
  • A basic understanding of flammable and combustible materials

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Standard hours for this position are 6:00am - 4:30pm; current hours are 6:00am - 6:30pm
  • Must be available for overtime and weekends as the schedule varies depending on site operational needs; flexibility is required
  • Stand: Up to 10 hours per day
  • Sit: Up to 3 hours per day
  • Push/Pull: Up to 75lbs. (unassisted) 1-2 hours per day
  • Overhead reach: Up to 10 hours per day
  • Walk: Up to 10 hours per day
  • Lift/Carry: Up to 50lbs. (unassisted) 1-2 hours per day
  • Climb (ladder/stairs): Up to 6 hours per day
  • Kneel/Crouch: Up to 10 hours per day
  • Upper body twist: Up to 6 hours per day
  • Ability to work in temperatures over 80 degrees 6 hours or greater per day
  • Candidate must be capable of safely working at heights (up to 500ft), in confined spaces, operating heavy equipment and machinery, and performing the physical requirements of the job listed in the job description. Candidate may be required to complete a pre‑employment questionnaire and/or physical to confirm these capabilities, which may include a medical history review
