Job summary

Veterans Health Administration is seeking a Supply Technician (Medical) to support the Medical Supply Distribution within the VA Health Care System. You will provide wards, clinics, operating rooms, and other hospital facilities with a broad range of medical supplies and instrument sets.

The ideal candidate will bring experience in stock handling, inventory control and ability to work across clinical and administrative areas, ensuring timely distribution and accuracy of materials.”

Qualifications

  • One year of specialized experience in supplying clinical and/or administrative areas.
  • Educational substitute: four years of above-high-school study in any field.
  • Combination: more education than required with experience, per GS guidelines.
  • Familiarity with an automated inventory or materials management system.

  • Provide wards, clinics, operating rooms, secondary storage locations and hospital facilities with medical supplies, sterile/non-sterile items, instrument sets and equipment.
  • Receive, store, stock, and distribute supplies and monitor stock levels and expiration dates.
  • Maintain records of stock and respond to inquiries about supplies and materials.

Job description

This position serves as Supply Technician (Medical) for the Medical Supply Distribution (MSD) areas of Logistics Service within the VA Health Care System. As a Supply Technician, you will provide wards, clinics, operating rooms, secondary storage locations, and other hospital facilities with supplies and material including, but not limited to, sterile and non-sterile medical supplies, instrument sets and equipment.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 09/07/2026. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:

  • Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-4 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: includes providing supplies and material to clinical and/or administrative areas of a facility; scanning, bar-coding, receiving, storing and distributing supplies, instruments and other material; pulling stock, replenishing stock and maintaining records on stock levels; monitoring expiration dates; cleaning assigned areas in accordance with regulations and policy; utilizing an automated system to maintain inventory; and answers customer questions regarding supplies and materials.
  • OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have have successfully completed 4 years above high school in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education was obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university .
  • OR, Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond high school education as described above that demonstrates my ability to perform the duties of this position. For the GS-05, only education in excess of 60 semester hours (2 years) is creditable.
