Responsibilities

• Monitor expiration dates of supplies and instruments.

Job description

This position serves as Supply Technician (Medical) for the Medical Supply Distribution (MSD) areas of Logistics Service within the VA Boston Healthcare System, West Roxbury Campus, in West Roxbury, MA. As a Supply Technician, you will provide wards, clinics, operating rooms, secondary storage locations and other hospital facilities with supplies and material including but not limited to, sterile and non-sterile medical supplies, instrument sets and equipment.

SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR (SCREEN-OUT)

A Selective Placement Factor (SPF) has been identified for this position. Selective Placement Factors (SPF) are a prerequisite to appointment and represent minimum requirements for the position. Applicants who do not meet the SPF are ineligible for further consideration.

The SPF for this position is: Requires a valid/current state Driver's License. (Please DO NOT provide a copy of your driver's license. We cannot accept pictures. This requirement will be verified during interview.)

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE

One (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-4 level in the Federal service that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this position.

Specialized experience includes:

• providing supplies and material to clinical and administrative areas of a complex health care facility
• scanning, bar-coding, receiving, storing and distributing medical and surgical supplies, instruments and other material
• pulling stock, replenishing stock and maintaining records on stock levels
• monitoring expiration dates
• cleaning assigned areas in accordance with aseptic principles
• utilizing an automated system to maintain inventory
• answering customer questions regarding supplies and materials

EDUCATION SUBSTITUTION

Successfully completed 4 years of education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite? This education was obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

COMBINATION

Possess an equivalent combination of specialized experience and post high school education as described above that demonstrates my ability to perform the duties of this position. For the GS-5, only education in excess of 60 semester hours (2 years) is creditable. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The work requires standing and walking during the entire workday and frequent reaching, bending and lifting of supply packages (occasionally weighing as much as 50 pounds). The work requires pushing loaded carts of medical supplies (weighing in excess of 100 plus pounds). With proper assistance, moves heavier items weighing over 40 pounds.
