Job summary

Astranis seeks a Supplier Quality Engineer to drive a zero-defects supplier base as we scale satellite manufacturing. You will lead supplier qualification, DFMs, and quality systems to ensure reliability for aerospace suppliers.

This role requires GD&T expertise, manufacturing know-how, and travel up to 40% to supplier sites. You will collaborate across Product Engineering, Manufacturing, and QA to maintain high quality and on-time delivery.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Material Science/Physics or related field.
  • At least 3 years in manufacturing, quality, or supply chain engineering.
  • Background in GD&T, mechanical and thermal engineering, and manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities

  • Define product specs for raw materials, testing, inspection, GD&T, and workmanship with Product Engineering.
  • Lead vendor qualification from audits to qualification builds.
  • Run DFM reviews and be the main vendor quality contact.
  • Set phase gates for NPI: CDR, MRR.
  • Develop IQC procedures for thermal, electromechanical assemblies, RF passives, and metal parts; review certificates of conformance.
  • Drive root-cause analysis and corrective actions with suppliers.

Supplier Quality Engineer

As a Supplier Quality Engineer, you will be responsible for successful driving our vendor base to a ZERO defects and scale Astranis production at suppliers as we build our satellite manufacturing business. The Supplier Quality team is responsible for supplier identification, qualification, ongoing development, and corrective action. The job involves technical communication with internal and external teams, traveling to suppliers in different regions, and on-the-spot critical decision making. This role is critical to expanding our manufacturing capability while ensuring extreme reliability to make Astranis a world-class satellite manufacturing company.

Role
  • Define product specifications – raw material, testing and inspection, GD&T/CMM, and workmanship – in collaboration with Product Engineering
  • Establish and execute vendor qualification processes from onsite audits, technical assessments, through qualification builds
  • Lead Design For Manufacturing (DFM) reviews and feedback. Become the main vendor's manufacturing and quality point of contact
  • Establish phase gates at suppliers for new product introduction – Critical Design Review (CDR), Manufacturing Readiness Review (MRR)
  • Develop Incoming Quality Control (IQC) – inspection procedures for thermal, electromechanical assemblies, RF passives, and metal-machined components; as well as supplier documentation (Certificates of Conformance and End Item Data Package) reviews
  • Spearhead root cause analysis and corrective actions with the vendors and qualify dispositions (rework, repair, re-build)
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Material Science/Physics or similar technical field
  • 3+ years experience in manufacturing engineering, quality engineering, or supply chain engineering
  • Background in GD&T, mechanical and thermal engineering, and manufacturing processes (CNC, forging, welding, assembly)
  • Ability to work extended hours and travel 40%+ of the time, as needed to meet critical deadlines

Bonus

  • Experience in aerospace manufacturing or automotive manufacturing – AS9100, IAFT 16949, Quality Management Systems
  • Statistical tools domain – Cpk & Ppk, SPC), DOE, and GR&R
  • Experience in electronics manufacturing – PCBA and Harnesses (IPC 600, IPC 610, and IPC 620)

Astranis pay ranges are informed and defined through professional-grade salary surveys and compensation data sources. The actual base salary offered to a successful candidate will additionally be influenced by a variety of factors including experience, credentials & certifications, educational attainment, skill level requirements, and the level and scope of the position.

$100,000 - $150,000 USD
