Job summary

A-dec is seeking a Supplier Quality Engineer to assess supplier quality and ensure that purchased products arrive defect-free. You will perform dimensional/visual/functional analysis for new product introduction to identify potential failure modes and guide design for manufacturing and cost reduction.

You will collaborate with management, buyers and suppliers, visit supplier facilities, and develop qualification plans, containment actions and corrective measures to improve supplier performance

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent experience.
• Experience applying supplier quality engineering principles.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.

Responsibilities

• Determine which parts require inspection at incoming.
• Create inspection plans (frequency, dimensional/visual/functional requirements) and monitor through ERP.
• Facilitate dock to stock receipts process as necessary.
• Address supplier quality issues with containment and corrective actions.
• Support buyers, inspectors and suppliers on containment, root cause analysis, and preventive actions.
• Lead supplier quality audits (on and off site).
• Develop part qualification plans for new parts and major revisions.

Overview

Performs a central role in assessing supplier quality and ensuring that purchased products received are free of defects. Conducts dimensional/visual/functional analysis on purchased items for new product introduction to identify potential areas of failure or recurring manufacturing defects. Communicates between management, buyers and suppliers to address and resolve quality issues, providing technical input and guidance on process enhancements and improvements. This includes visiting supplier facilities to assess their practices and procedures and identifying areas for improvement. Provides specialized quality engineering support for electrical commodities including printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs), cable and wire harness assemblies, electro‑mechanical devices, sensors, power components, and related electronic systems.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Determines which parts require inspection at incoming.
• Responsible for creation of inspection plan (frequency, dimensional/visual/functional requirements to sample, etc.) and is responsible for implementation and monitoring through the ERP system.
• Facilitates dock to stock receipts process as necessary.
• Responsible for immediate action to sourced part quality issues at inspection, assembly, in the field, etc.
• Supports the buyers, inspectors and suppliers on containment, replacement, root cause analysis, corrective and preventative actions.
• Monitors corrective and preventative actions at the supplier for effectiveness.
• Develops part qualification plans for new parts and major revisions.
• Collaborates with design engineering on first article review/approval, fit/form/function testing, necessary drawing changes, design and implementation for measurement tools /fixtures.
• Recommends necessary product drawing and specification changes to facilitate design for manufacturing and design for cost.
• Requests, reviews and provides input for part qualification approval elements such as, critical dimension capability studies, packaging plans, control plans, measurement systems analysis, etc.
• Partners with suppliers to improve plans and measurement capability as required.
• Participates in supplier selection/qualification and re-qualification processes by leading supplier quality systems audits (both on and off site).
• Recommends process changes with suppliers as necessary that will ensure the supplier can consistently achieve stated a-dec quality requirements.
• Identifies cost savings opportunities both internally and with suppliers.
• Supports cost savings initiatives through part/material/supplier qualification.
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Demonstrates skills suitable for application and interpretation of basic supplier quality engineering principles, theories, and concepts.
• Demonstrates good organizational skills and the ability to manage time and resources effectively.
• Ability to work independently as well as on a team.
• Ability to effectively communicate in oral, written and graphical form.
