Job summary

True Anomaly in Long Beach, CA is seeking a Supplier Development Engineer to build and sustain a world-class supplier base capable of delivering flight-quality hardware for space systems. You will bridge internal engineering and supplier networks, driving lean, scalable processes from the ground up while ensuring quality, cost, and schedule targets.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical, electronics, manufacturing, or related field.
  • 4–7 years in supplier development or manufacturing engineering in Aerospace/Defense/Medical/Automotive with electronics focus.
  • Experience with IPC standards and MIL-STD testing.
  • Lean methodologies implemented with measurable results.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and BOMs.
  • Experience conducting supplier audits and CAPA processes.
  • Experience developing supplier quality programs for PCBA, harnessing, and box builds.
  • Familiarity with AOI, X-ray, ICT, and functional/parametric testing.
  • Willingness to travel 30–50%

Responsibilities

  • Lead supplier development lifecycle for Electronics, PCBA, Cable Harnesses, Box Build Assemblies, and Power Systems.
  • Execute supplier qualification processes including audits, capability/risk assessments, and FAI with IPC/MIL-STD focus.
  • Develop and implement supplier quality programs with scorecards and flow-down requirements.
  • Conduct audits at supplier sites to verify AS9100, IPC-A-610/J-STD-001, MIL-STD readiness.
  • Evaluate supplier PCBA fabrication, assembly, inspection, conformal coating, and box build capabilities.
  • Drive root cause and corrective action for electronics quality escapes.
  • Lead lean initiatives at supplier sites to improve manufacturing quality and delivery.
  • Identify and mitigate supply chain risks; develop dual-source strategies.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to align supplier readiness with milestones.
  • Support NPI by assessing supplier capability for DFM and production scalability.
  • Contribute to development of supplier development processes and tools.
  • Travel to supplier sites as needed (30–50%).

YOUR MISSION

As a Supplier Development Engineer at True Anomaly, you will play a vital role in building and sustaining a world-class supplier base capable of delivering flight-quality hardware to orbit Reporting to theManager of Supplier Development, you will support the identification, qualification, and continuous improvement of suppliers across key technical domains, ensuring they meet True Anomaly’s rigorous standards for quality, cost, and schedule This role is ideal for a technically minded engineer who thrives at the intersection of engineering and supply chain — someone who can bridge the gap between our internal engineering teams and our supplier network, and who is passionate about driving lean principles and scalable, resilient processes from the ground up

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead supplier development lifecycle — qualification, performance management, and continuous improvement — forElectronics, PCBA, Cable Harnesses, Box Build Assemblies, and Power Systems
  • Execute supplier qualification processes including technical audits, capability assessments, risk assessments, and first article inspections (FAI) with focus on IPC standards compliance and MIL-STD testing requirements
  • Develop and implement supplier quality programs including scorecards (tracking FPY, RTV, OTD, parametric test yields), quality clauses, and flow-down requirements for purchase orders
  • Conduct process, system, and product audits at supplier sites to verify AS9100, IPC-A-610/J-STD-001, MIL-STD-202/883 compliance, and readiness forflight electronics production
  • Evaluate supplier PCBA fabrication, assembly, inspection (AOI, X-ray, ICT, functional test), conformal coating, potting, and box build integration capabilities
  • Drive resolution of electronics quality escapesincluding solder defects,componentfailures, electrical parametric failures, and test escapes through root cause and corrective action (RCCA)
  • Lead lean implementation initiatives at supplier sites including value stream mapping, waste reduction, 5S, and kaizen events to improveelectronics manufacturing quality, test yields, and delivery performance
  • Identify and mitigate supply chain risks including single-source dependencies,EEEcomponentobsolescence, long lead items, and regulatory exposure; develop dual-source strategies
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Electrical Engineering, Test Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and Program Managementto ensure supplier readiness aligns with program milestones
  • Support new product introduction (NPI)by assessing supplier capability for design-for-manufacturability (DFM), test coverage, and production scalability forelectronicsassemblies
  • Contribute to development and continuous improvement of supplier development processes, tools, and documentation
  • Travel to supplier sites as needed (estimated 30–50%)

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Electronics Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering,orrelevant work experience
  • 4–7 years of experience in supplier development, supplier quality, or manufacturing engineering in Aerospace/Defense/Medical/Automotive with focus on electronics, PCBA, or power systems
  • Hands-on experience with IPC standards including IPC-A-610 (inspection), IPC-J-STD-001 (soldering), IPC-7711/7721 (rework), and IPC-A-620 (cable/harness assemblies)
  • Experience with MIL-STD testing protocols for electronics such as MIL-STD-202 (electronic components), MIL-STD-883 (microcircuits), or MIL-STD-1540/1541 (space systems testing)
  • Hands-on experience implementing lean methodologies at supplier or manufacturing sites with measurable results
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, PCB layouts, cable/harness drawings, bill of materials (BOMs), and electronics test specifications
  • Experience conducting supplier audits, capability/risk assessments, qualification programs, and corrective action processes (8D, CAPA, SCAR) for electronics manufacturing
  • Experience developing supplier quality programs including scorecards, quality clauses, and performance management systems for PCBA, harnessing, and box build suppliers
  • Familiarity with electronics inspection methods: AOI (Automated Optical Inspection), X-ray inspection (BGA, QFN), ICT (In-Circuit Test), functional/parametric testing
  • Familiarity with AS9100, ITAR/EAR, and aerospace quality frameworks Strong communication, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Excel) and data-driven supplier performance tools
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems
  • Willingness to travel to supplier sites (30–50%)

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • IPC Certified IPC Specialist (CIS) or IPC Trainer (CIT)certification in IPC-A-610 and/or J-STD-001
  • Space-technology electronics supply chain or flight hardware development experience
  • Experience with power electronics testing including DC-DC converters, power distribution units, battery management systems, or high-reliability power supplies
  • Lean or Six Sigma certification (Green Belt, Lean Practitioner) or equivalent demonstrated experience
  • Technical fluency in PCBA fabrication, SMT/THT assembly processes, conformal coating, potting/encapsulation, cable/harness assembly, and box build integration
  • Experience with electronics test development including functional test, environmental stress screening (ESS), burn-in, TVAC, or EMI/EMC testing
  • Experience in high-growth startup or New Space environment
  • Background in supply chain risk management, electronics component obsolescence management, business continuity planning, or dual-sourcing strategies
  • Experience with statistical process control (SPC), capability studies (Cpk), measurement system analysis (MSA), and test yield analysis
  • Familiarity with NASA workmanship standards (NASA-STD-8739 series) or military electronics standards (MIL-PRF-55110, MIL-PRF-38534)

COMPENSATION

  • Base Salary: $105,000-$160,000
  • Equity + Benefits including Health, Dental, Vision, HRA/HSA options, PTO and paid holidays, 401K, Parental Leave

Your actual level and base salary will bedetermined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, location, and experience.

  • Work Location —Successful candidates will be located near Denver or Long Beach. While we observe a hybrid work environment, some work must be done on site.
