Job summary

Oura is seeking a Supplier Development Engineer - Battery in San Francisco, CA to deliver end-to-end manufacturing solutions for battery systems powering our products. The role involves cell development, pack integration, automation bring-up, and supplier onboarding, with a hybrid work arrangement requiring 2–3 days in the SF office.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent with relevant experience in battery manufacturing.
• 3+ years in a battery/electromechanical MFG environment as a supplier/dev engineer or similar.
• Experience with lithium-ion/LFP cells and pack assembly is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Define best-in-class battery cell, assembly, and integration processes to meet design, safety, and operational requirements.
• Collaborate with Battery, Electrical, Quality, and Product teams to optimize cell design and manufacturing processes for energy density and cost.
• Identify, qualify battery cell suppliers, pack assemblers, and automation equipment manufacturers.
• Lead new battery assembly line and automation bring-up from equipment spec to production ramp.
• Drive global suppliers to optimize fabrication, assembly, and pack integration processes with top-quality outcomes.
• Use data to guide process decisions impacting cell dimensions, capacity, tolerances, and specs.

We are looking for a Supplier Development Engineer - Battery based in San Francisco, CA who will provide end-to-end manufacturing and process solutions for the battery systems that power OURA’s new and sustaining products. This includes battery cell development and qualification, assembly automation development and line bring-up, cell-to-pack integration into OURA’s ring form factors, new supplier bring up, and process technology R&D.

This is a hybrid role, the candidate should be based in the San Francisco Bay Area and able to come into the San Francisco office 2-3 days per week.

What you will do:

• Define best-in-class battery cell, assembly, and integration processes to meet all OURA design, safety, and operational requirements
• Partner with Battery/Electrical Engineers, Quality Engineers, Material Engineers, and Product Designers to optimize cell design and manufacturing processes for energy density, cost, cosmetics, and reliability
• Identify, research, develop, and qualify battery cell suppliers, pack assemblers, and automation equipment manufacturers in support of OURA’s hardware development goals
• Lead new battery assembly line and automation bring-up — from equipment specification and buy-off through installation qualification and production ramp
• Drive suppliers globally to establish and optimize battery cell fabrication, assembly, and pack-integration processes, ensuring best-in-class quality & resolving production issues
• Use data to drive process decisions and influence product and industrial design, including cell dimensions, capacity, tolerances and specifications

Requirements

We would love to have you on our team if you have:

• 3+ years of direct experience working in a battery or electromechanical manufacturing environment as a Supplier Development Engineer, Supply Base Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer, Cell/Battery Process Engineer, Supplier Industrialization Engineer or equivalent role
• Experience with lithium-ion / lithium-polymer cell design, fabrication, and/or battery pack assembly and integration
• Experience working with global suppliers to establish & qualify manufacturing processes from NPI to Mass Production
• Experience bringing up and qualifying automated battery assembly lines and manufacturing equipment
• Ability to analyze failure modes and identify process or design root causes
• Familiarity with battery safety and regulatory standards (e.g. UN38.3, IEC 62133, UL 1642/2054) a plus
• Excellent critical thinking and problem solving skills
• Effectively communicate challenges to leadership and cross-functional partners
• Ability to travel internationally, up to 15% of the time
