Job summary

Memorial Hermann Health System is seeking a Security Officer to support safety and security on a Memorial Hermann Hospital campus. The role requires maintaining high visibility, controlling access, and assisting patients, visitors and staff in daily operations.

The candidate should have a High School Diploma or GED, Texas commissioned security license, a valid driver’s license, CPR certification, and at least 1 year of security experience, preferably healthcare.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Must be licensed as a Commissioned Security Officer by the Texas DPS Private Security Bureau within 90 days of hire.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license; if out of state, obtain Texas license within 90 days.
• Must be certified in Heartsaver CPR or Heartcode BLS by AHA within 90 days of hire.
• Must be at least 21 years old.
• Minimum of 1 year security-related experience; healthcare experience preferred.
• Must understand and communicate in English effectively, both verbally and in writing.
• Computer proficiency is required.

Responsibilities

• Administers and enforces building visitor and material pass programs.
• Follows hospital policies; posts orders and complies with job requirements.

• Acts as a preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.

Minimum Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or GED
• Licenses/Certifications: Must be licensed as a Commissioned Security Officer by the Texas Department of Public Safety Private Security Bureau (if not licensed upon date of hire, must obtain license no more than 90 days after hire).
• Possession of a valid driver’s license (if from out of state, must obtain a Texas Driver’s license within 90 days of employment).
• Must be certified in Heartsaver® CPR or Heartcode CPR BLS by the American Heart Association (if not certified upon date of hire, must obtain certification no more than 90 days after hire).
• Age Requirement: Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Minimum of one (1) year security related experience required, Healthcare experience preferred.
• Must be able to understand the English language and communicate it effectively in both verbal and written form.
• Proficiency in the use of computers is required.

Principal Accountabilities

• Monitors assigned areas in a manner assuring maximum visibility of the security presence; post in assigned area or conduct patrols in vehicle or on foot; serving to ensure security of all designated areas and access points.
• Controls vehicular access to buildings and parking area identify and report all fire and safety hazards, suspicious activities, or breaches of security.
• Controls access of areas and of materials by administering and enforcing building visitor and materials pass programs.
• Have a complete understanding of hospital, building management, and departmental policies and procedures; post orders and comply with their job requirements at all times.
• Responds to all security and emergency situations as dispatched or assigned; assist patients, visitors and staff by answering questions and by providing escorts, directions, and vehicle assists.
• Completes and submits required Security Reports and activity logs within assigned shift; properly operate and care for Security equipment; maintain knowledge of locations and operation of emergency systems and equipment.
• Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.
• Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.
• Demonstrates commitment to caring for every member of our community by creating compassionate and personalized experiences.
