Job summary

Kemper CPA Group LLP in Effingham, Illinois is seeking a Supervisory Staff Accountant with solid accounting and tax/audit exposure. You will supervise entry-level staff, review work, and coordinate with a Supervisor, Senior, Manager, or Partner.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree in accounting, strong communication skills, and proficiency with MS Office. CPA license is preferred; some overtime during peak seasons is expected.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting; CPA exam eligibility or CPA license preferred.
  • Strong technology skills to contribute to assignment completion.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication with clients and staff.
  • Demonstrate ownership of work and initiative to complete tasks.
  • Ability to work under time constraints.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare simple and moderate tax returns and suggest client tax planning ideas.
  • Work independently as well as in a team within tax and/or audit engagements.
  • Execute routine journal entries and prepare simple financial statements using provided formats.
  • Complete basic accounting procedures such as bank reconciliations, accruals, and depreciation schedule updates.
  • Follow basic audit work paper techniques and assist in explaining discrepancies and preparing final reports.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

We are currently seeking qualified candidates for aSupervisory Staff Accountant position in ourEffingham, Illinoisoffice.Some overtime is expected during peak seasons.

The position requires an experienced professional with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, along with a desire to take on new challenges and responsibilities.The Supervisory Staff Accountant will perform most tasks with a minimum of supervision. Qualified candidates will be able to direct entry level Staff Accountants, instruct them in work to be performed, review the work done, and direct necessary revisions. Supervisory Staff Accountant candidates will also be able to outline any issues for their Supervisor (Senior Accountant, Manager, or Partner) and act on that individual’s advice. A CPA license is preferred.

Job Responsibilities
  • Prepare simple and moderate tax returns and suggest client tax planning ideas.
  • Work independently as well as in a team environment within tax and/or audit engagements.
  • Execute routine journal entries and prepare simple financial statementsutilizingthe provided format.
  • Complete basic procedures for general accounting functionssuch as:bank reconciliations, accrual computations, statistical and account analysis, inventoryobservationsand depreciation schedule updates.
  • Follow basic audit work paper techniques and spreadsheets, follow-up with clients on explanations of discrepancies andassistin preparing final report.
  • Additionalduties as assigned.
Qualifications and Competencies
  • Possess a bachelor’s degree in accounting and be eligible to sit for the CPA exam oralready haveobtainedCPAlicense.
  • Possess technology skills which contribute to the completion of assignments.
  • Display the ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing to clients and staff in a respectful and professional manner.
  • Demonstrate ownership of work assigned and take the initiative to complete the work assigned.
  • Work under time constraints.
  • Proficiencyin Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
