This is a working supervisor with daily Mammography duties. The incumbent will supervise staff, coordinate QA programs, prepare reports for FDA/ACR inspections, and ensure ARRT licensure and adherence

Qualifications

• An ARRT (R) certification in radiologic technology.
• Completion of a 24-month post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program.
• Eligible for credentialing under VA standards and Public Law 97-35.

Responsibilities

• Supervise Mammography and Ultrasound sections and lead QA activities.
• Coordinate daily operations to ensure high-quality results and patient satisfaction.
• Serve as Lead Mammographer during inspections and audits.
• Manage staffing, scheduling, and disciplinary actions per VA directives.
• Maintain ARRT licensure and ensure compliance with FDA and ACR standards.

Summary

The Primary Purpose of the Position is: Incumbent supervises the technical staff of the Mammography and Ultrasound section at the North Texas VA Health Care System (NTXHCS) to assure optimum quality control - efficient coordination of activities - high quality technical results - and patient satisfaction. Incumbent is a working supervisor with daily Mammography duties.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

• DRTs must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) - and7407(d)
• Education
• Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months in duration (or the equivalent) in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program - evidenced by a certificate or an associate degree - accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or from other accrediting agencies as recognized by the Department of Education (DOE)
• Certification
• All applicants must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology - Radiography (ARRT) (R)
• Credentialing Standards
• Public Law 97-35 - the Consumer-Patient Radiation Health and Safety Act of 1981 - requires that persons who administer radiologic procedures meet the credentialing standards in 42 CFR Part 75 - Standards for the Accreditation of Educational Programs and the Credentialing of Radiographic Personnel
• Essentially - they must have successfully completed an educational program that meets or exceeds the standards described in that regulation and is accredited by an organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and be certified as radiographers in their field
• May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria)

Duties

• This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until September 17 - 2027 .The initial cut-off date for referral of eligible applications will be September 30 - 2026 - with subsequent cut-off dates every two weeks until 09/17/2027

• Incumbent must be ARRT (R) (M) registered and preferred Ultrasound registered (RDMS)
• Incumbent performs continuing education to satisfy yearly/bi-annual requirements for ARRT license and must always be \"in good standing\" with the ARRT
• Incumbents always maintain their BLS certification
• Incumbent serves as the subject matter expert for FDA & ACR inspections to include preparing necessary monthly reports - preparing medical outcome audits - preparing repeat/reject analysis reports - preparing weekly - biweekly - quarterly - bi-annually - and yearly QC reports and calibrations
• Incumbent serves as subject matter expert of FDA & ACR regulations regarding acquisition - installation - and inspection processes of any new mammography equipment
• Incumbent will serve as the Lead Mammographer for inspection processes sitting with inspectors during evaluation period
• Incumbent will report required data & results to Women's Veteran Program Coordinator as required by the Women's Veteran Program Handbook & Directives
• Coordinates all work performed by the mammography and ultrasound staff at NTXHCS
• Works with associated customers - i.e
• clinicians - patients - various staff - to ensure that all questions are resolved or are forwarded through the chain of command as necessary
• Make changes in workflow or assignment of functions to position to improve workflow and services rendered - promote job satisfaction - increase productivity - ensures emergent work is done promptly - and all services are rendered efficiently
• Maintains workload demand including justifying changes in staffing levels - priorities - and deadlines to ensure timely care is provided
• Prepares requests for filling of vacant positions
• Participates with the Chief Technologist of the Imaging Service and the Radiology Administrative Officer (AO) in the selection of candidates for positions in the department
• Recommends and submits information to AO for changes that may increase or reduce costs - affect employees' status - limit services rendered - or affect work outside the mammography section
• Submits special budget requirements to AO for the mammography and ultrasound sections at NTXHCS
• Coordinates and supervises quality assurance activities of all mammography staff in all assigned areas
• Develops and maintains a quality control program
• Ensures that adequate quantities of supplies are available to meet workload/patient care demands
• Ensure procedure rooms are always stocked with necessary supplies
• Ensures that all exam rooms are neat and always clean
• Assigns employees to positions and/or work assignments based on consideration of several factors including the difficulty and type of work - availability - capability and experience
• Issues oral and written instructions for non-routine or more complex assignments
• Approves or disapproves requests for leave for mammography and ultrasound staff - taking into consideration staffing levels and appropriate coverage
• Resolves scheduling concerns
• Assists in providing coverage when unexpected staffing shortages occur
