Job summary

Defense Finance and Accounting Service in Ohio seeks a supervisory accountant to oversee Accounts Maintenance and Control, ensuring accuracy of transactions and payments to vendors. You will interpret regulations and policies to ensure compliance.

Qualifications

  • Substitution of combination of education and experience must still satisfy the DHA qualification requirement.

  • Specialized experience includes processing and auditing complex pay transactions and reconciling pay system data.
  • Volunteer experience (paid or unpaid) may count toward qualifying experience.
  • Within two years of entry, obtain/maintain DoD FM Certification Level 1.
  • Security determination must be favorable for sensitive position; background checks may delay start.

Duties
  • Supervises and directs Accounts Maintenance and Control functions verifying the accuracy, completeness, and validity of accounting transactions and vendor payments.
  • Interprets Accounts Maintenance and Control regulations, requirements, and policies, including changes, updates, and automated systems modifications, to ensure compliance.
  • Trains and assists lower-level accounting technicians with techniques to correct and process accounting inputs.
  • Ensures accuracy, propriety, and legality of accounting transactions through extensive review of documents.

Qualifications

This position is being filled under the Direct Hire Authority for Certain Personnel of the Department of Defense via delegated authority by the Office of the Secretary of Defense. Applicants MUST have related financial experience AND/OR a related financial degree (examples include: Finance, Accounting, Management, Actuarial Science, or related), in addition to meeting Office of Personnel Management (OPM) minimum qualification requirements. Substitution of combination of education and experience must still, in conjunction, minimally satisfy the DHA qualification requirement.

One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade (GS-07) within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required.

Specialized experience is defined as: Processing and auditing complex pay transactions; reconciling pay system and financial system data; working with a variety of electronic systems to review and resolve pay transaction issues.

Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
