Job summary

McLane Company, Inc. in Brookhaven (Mississippi) is seeking a Transportation Maintenance Supervisor to lead repair and maintenance operations for trucks and trailers.

You will manage budgets, coordinate technicians, and ensure safety and efficiency while directing daily activities and training. The role requires a 4-year degree or equivalent, 5+ years of supervision, strong leadership and communication skills, and extensive diesel/heavy equipment knowledge.

Qualifications

  • 4-year degree or equivalent professional training and experience in heavy maintenance discipline.
  • 5+ years of maintenance supervision experience in automotive or heavy‑duty shop.
  • Strong leadership qualities, including accountability and planning.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Willing to work flexible hours.
  • 5-7 years job experience on major diesel repairs, heavy duty tractor‑trailer repairs, refrigeration maintenance.
  • Valid Class C Driver’s License; Class A preferred.
  • Knowledge to handle trailer and reefer repairs.
  • Half of required certifications with the rest within 90 days: ASE T4, ASE T5, Cummins/Detroit/MaxxForce engines, brake systems, tractor diagnostics, Spicer‑fuller/Eaton.

Responsibilities

  • Develop budgets for repair, maintenance, supplies, and parts inventory.
  • Negotiate maintenance contracts and third‑party support.
  • Coordinate daily activities of Technicians and supervise for productivity and safety.
  • Ensure training and certifications on all technical aspects of maintenance.
  • Maintain staffing, training, and certifications.
  • Utilize Fleet Assistant to optimize asset utilization.
  • Monitor expenses by function and equipment.
  • Provide hands-on repairs as needed.
  • Maintain spare parts inventory and monitor purchasing.
  • Foster vendor and contractor relationships for quality and cost.
  • Work nights and weekends if required.
  • Maintain safety processes to comply with regulations.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisor and peers.
  • Follow directions and work independently or in a team.
  • Maintain flexible schedule to meet needs.

This position is responsible for coordinating all repairs, maintenance, and Capital Expense projects, while ensuring equipment, building requirements are maintained at the highest efficiency level possible. A Supervisor must be able to teach and mentor other technicians, including but not limited to, company policies and procedures, repair functions, work orders, assist in evaluation of shop Teammates, recording of data into the maintenance software system, maintaining an accurate parts inventory, and the requirements for maintaining a clean and safe working environment.

What You’ll Do As a Transportation Maintenance Supervisor
  • Develop budgets for repair, maintenance, supplies, third party support and spare parts inventory.
  • Negotiate maintenance contracts and other third-party support for the Transportation.
  • Identify, prioritize and coordinate the daily activities of Technicians, inspire the department to achieve desired results in productivity, teamwork, safety and task proficiency.
  • Ensure the training and development of the team on all technical aspects of Tran’s maintenance including, but not limited to, refrigeration, heavy duty tractors, trailer repair.
  • Maintain proper staffing, required training and certifications.
  • Utilize computerized maintenance system “Fleet Assistant” to optimize asset utilization through scheduled preventive maintenance.
  • Monitor expenses by function and equipment.
  • Able and willing to provide “hands on repairs” to all equipment repairs required.
  • Maintain an adequate spare parts inventory, monitor purchasing and expense actions.
  • Develop and foster strong vendor and contractor relationships to ensure the best quality, cost and customer service for the Transportation.
  • Work nights and weekends if required for supervision or work-related problems.
  • Maintain and monitor safety processes to keep the Trans Shop in compliance with all federal, state and local regulations.
  • Effectively communicate both written and orally with supervisor and peers.
  • Follow directions.
  • Work independently and in a team environment.
  • Comply with company attendance policy.
  • Maintain a flexible work schedule to meet the changing needs of the job.
  • Work in warm and cold temperature conditions.

Qualifications You’ll Bring As a Transportation Maintenance Supervisor
  • Have a 4-year degree or equivalent professional training and experience in heavy maintenance discipline.
  • Have 5 or more years of maintenance supervision experience in an automotive or heavy‑duty shop.
  • Possess outstanding leadership qualities, including assertiveness, organization, enthusiasm, decisiveness, planning, confidence and accountability.
  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Possess strong analytical skills.
  • Be willing to work flexible hours.
  • Have strong technical working knowledge of Medium/Heavy equipment.
  • Possess computer skills including Windows, MSOffice and maintenance related computer systems.
  • Have 5 - 7 years job experience on major diesel repairs, heavy duty tractor‑trailer repairs, major refrigeration maintenance and repairs.
  • Possess a Valid Class C Driver’s License. Prefer Class A.
  • Preferred knowledge to handle all trailer and reefer repairs.
  • Have half of the following certifications with the other half achieved in 90 days of employment:
    • A current ASE certification in Medium/Heavy Truck Brakes (Test T4)
    • A current ASE certification in Medium/Heavy Truck Suspension and Steering (Test T5)
    • Have one or all certifications in Cummins, Detroit or MaxxForce 13 Engines
    • Brake systems and components
    • Tractor diagnostics and repairs
    • Spicer‑fuller, Eaton transmissions
    • Spicer‑fuller, Eaton differentials
  • Have knowledge of OSIIA, EPA, DOT and CSA related procedures and safety regulations.
  • This position requires the ability to read, write, and understand English at a level sufficient to perform job‑related tasks effectively and safely. This includes understanding work instructions, safety protocols, and communications essential to the role. The requirement is directly related to the nature of the job and ensures compliance with workplace safety and operational standards.
