Job summary

AdventHealth Shawnee Mission is seeking a Respiratory Therapist with 3+ years in critical care to lead and support clinical teams. You will ensure efficient patient care, maintain clinical competencies, and collaborate with nursing and physicians to deliver high-quality respiratory therapies.

Requirements include an Associate's degree (Bachelor's preferred), RRT/CPR licensure, and strong English communication.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of regulatory and professional standards required.
• Effective oral and written communication skills, including EMR documentation.
• Ability to multitask, prioritize, and act calmly in stressful situations.
• Strong teamwork and collaboration with healthcare staff.
• Develop and implement educational processes for team members.
• Clinical decision making using respiratory therapy protocols.
• Reading, writing, and speaking conversational English.

Responsibilities

• Review scheduling and staffing to ensure efficient resource use.
• Serve as liaison between staff and department leadership.
• Maintain professional relationships with patients, families, and staff.
• Model leadership, initiative, and ongoing professional growth.
• Assist with clinical duties and maintain required clinical competencies.

Job Description:

FT Days

• Ensures efficient use of resources and labor by reviewing scheduling and staffing needs.
• Acts as a liaison between staff and department leadership, communicating important issues to leadership promptly.
• Maintains good working relationships with all customers and communicates effectively with other healthcare team members.
• Serves as a role model by demonstrating leadership, communication, initiative, personal and professional growth, poise, and self-control.
• Acts as a resource person and assists with clinical duties when needed, maintaining all required clinical competencies.
• Practices and enforces standard precautions and safety regulations according to hospital policies
• Attends new leader orientation and ongoing management/leadership classes. Adheres to, and ensures staff adherence to, the AdventHealth Corporate Compliance Plan and all applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
• Monitors staff activities in the clinical setting to ensure services are provided according to department and facility policies and procedures.
• Demonstrates professional standards and ethics, showing regard for the dignity, confidentiality, and respect of all patients, family members, visitors, and hospital personnel. Participates in and proactively initiates performance improvement activities.
• Completes performance appraisals on time, counsels staff, and initiates progressive discipline as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge and appropriate implementation of applicable regulatory and professional standards [Required]
• Effective oral and written communication skills, including documentation in the patient care record (EMR) [Required]
• Ability to handle multiple projects and initiatives and make appropriate decisions in stressful situations [Required]
• Ability to maintain good working relationships and open lines of communication with all and collaborate with other departments to ensure continuity of patient care [Required]
• Develop and implement educational processes for all team members and able to function as manager in the absence of the manager [Required]
• Critical thinking and patient assessment skills with the ability to evaluate and modify treatment plans utilizing respiratory therapy driven protocols [Required]
• Must be able to read, write, and speak conversational English [Required]

• Bachelor's [Preferred]

Field of Study:

• in Respiratory Therapy or Cardiopulmonary Science

Work Experience:

• 3+ years critical care experience [Required]
