Job summary

Electric Reliability Council of Texas is seeking a Supervisor of Renewable Forecasting and Analysis to lead the renewable forecasting team, directing the development of wind and solar forecasts and applying AI/ML techniques to strengthen in-house models.

The role oversees forecast performance, data quality, vendor contracts, and coordination with meteorologists and control room staff, with hybrid work in Taylor, TX.

Qualifications

• 5 years of related experience, with at least 1 year in a leadership role.
• Experience managing forecast vendor contracts, procurement processes, and SLAs.
• Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering or related field is required; master's preferred or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Directly supervise a team of engineers and analysts with performance management and workload prioritization.
• Manage forecast vendor procurement and contract lifecycle (RFPs, renewals, SLAs).
• Identify and scope new forecasting use-cases and business needs, including new forecast product types.
• Lead development of operationally reliable wind and solar forecasts using AI/ML to enhance in-house models.
• Oversee forecast performance analysis and reporting; ensure accuracy of ERCOT forecasting reports.
• Monitor renewable telemetry performance and data quality; manage Pay-for-Performance evaluation and its evolution.

JOB SUMMARY

The Supervisor of Renewable Forecasting and Analysis leads ERCOT's renewable forecasting team, directing the development of operationally reliable wind and solar forecasts and applying advanced AI/ML and probabilistic techniques to strengthen in-house models. This role supervises a team of engineers and analysts, manages forecast vendor contracts and procurement, and oversees forecast performance analysis, reporting accuracy, and renewable telemetry data quality. The Supervisor also leads the Pay-for-Performance evaluation process, manages the ERCOT Forecast Presentation Platform, and serves as the primary point of coordination between ERCOT meteorologists and control room staff on renewable forecasting matters.

JOB DUTIES

• Directly supervise a team of ERCOT engineers and analysts, including performance management, coaching, and workload prioritization
• Manage forecast vendor procurement and contract lifecycle (RFPs, renewals, SLAs)
• Identify and scope new forecasting use‑cases and business needs, including new/emerging forecast product types
• Lead development of operationally reliable wind and solar forecasts, applying advanced AI/ML techniques to enhance existing in‑house models
• Oversee ongoing forecast performance analysis and reporting
• Own and ensure accuracy of ERCOT forecasting reports
• Monitor and manage renewable telemetry performance and data quality
• Lead Pay‑for‑Performance (P4P) evaluation and its ongoing methodology evolution
• Evaluate and refine the use of probabilistic forecasts and their integration into ERCOT methodologies
• Serve as primary point of coordination with ERCOT meteorologists and control room staff
• Manage ERCOT Forecast Presentation Platform (FPP)
• Evaluate and tune renewable parameters in ERCOT applications

EXPERIENCE

Typically requires 5 years of related experience, including at least 1 year of demonstrated leadership experience.

CERTIFICATION

PE Professional Engineer (Preferred)

EDUCATION

• Bachelor's Degree : Electrical Engineering or related field (Required)
• Master's Degree : Electrical Engineering or related field (Preferred) or a combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge to a major in such fields is required

WORK LOCATION

Hybrid in Taylor, TX 2 days per week

$145,000 - $200,000

INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

ENGINEER DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM (EDP)

The ERCOT Engineer Development Program (EDP) is a 12-to-16-month, self-paced program geared toward entry-level engineers looking to start a career in the power industry. Through the program, an EDP Engineer receives one-on-one mentoring, specialized training, and exposure to the work performed by each of the engineering groups at ERCOT. The program allows engineers to develop the fundamental skills necessary to reach their full potential while gaining an understanding of the types of engineering work ERCOT has to offer. EDP management supports participants each step of the way as they progress through the program. Upon completion, graduates are placed as full-time engineers within one of ERCOT’s engineering groups.

GRID AND MARKET SOLUTIONS DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM (GDP)

The GMS Development Program (GDP) is designed to provide entry-level and early career professionals with the skills necessary to become successful Power System and Computer Engineers. The program, which is based in ERCOT’s Grid and Market Solutions (GMS) Department, will provide experience in day-to-day work and instruction in the fundamentals of electric power systems engineering, grid and market applications, software programming, and IT service and operations management. The GDP offers one-on-one mentoring, training, field trips, and special assignments. These assignments allow GDP engineers to become knowledgeable and familiar with the various business areas at ERCOT. The GMS leadership team prepares GDP engineers for a future career at ERCOT in power systems and computer engineering.

OPERATIONAL SYSTEMS DEVELOPER PROGRAM (ODP)

The System Operator Development Program (ODP) is intended to combine real-time daily operations in an exciting work setting to prepare participants with the vital skills necessary to be successful in such a critical position — providing 24x7x365 on-demand support to manage the flow of electric power to more than 26 million Texas customers. If you are new to the industry, this program introduces you to the Bulk Electric System by combining introductory courses with the NERC Certification Exam Preparation Program in preparation to pass the NERC Certification Exam.
