Job summary

Qualifications

  • APICS or similar certification is a plus.
  • Proficiency with procurement software and ERP systems.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for internal and external collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the purchasing team to ensure timely procurement of materials and services per project timelines, budget, and quality standards.
  • Develop and maintain strong supplier relationships to ensure best pricing, quality, and delivery; monitor and address performance issues.
  • Negotiate contracts, terms, and pricing with suppliers for cost savings and favorable terms.
  • Conduct regular cost analyses to identify savings and drive cost-reduction initiatives.
  • Collaborate with engineering, production, quality, and logistics to ensure materials meet specs and on-time delivery.
  • Ensure purchasing activities comply with company policies and regulations; maintain ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 documentation.

Job description

Purpose

The Purchasing Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the procurement of materials, components, equipment and services required for production and operations. This role ensures that the purchasing department operates efficiently, negotiates with suppliers for optimal terms, and collaborates with cross‑functional teams to meet business needs.

Essential Duties
  • Lead the purchasing team to ensure timely procurement of materials and services in accordance with project timelines, budget, and quality standards.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers to ensure the best pricing, quality, and delivery. Monitor supplier performance and resolve any issues related to delivery, pricing, or quality.
  • Negotiate contracts, terms, and pricing agreements with suppliers to achieve cost savings and favorable terms for the organization.
  • Conduct regular cost analyses to identify potential savings and drive continuous cost‑reduction initiatives.
  • Collaborate with other groups to develop and implement best practices and process improvements to enhance procurement efficiency and supplier performance.
  • Ensure all purchasing activities comply with company policies, ethical standards, and relevant legal regulations via appropriate documentation. Maintain ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 documentation, including work instructions.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the purchasing team by setting performance goals, providing feedback, and facilitating training and development opportunities.
  • Work closely with engineering, production, quality, and logistics teams to ensure that all materials meet technical specifications and are delivered on time.
  • Identify potential supply chain risks and develop mitigation strategies, including alternative sourcing options.
  • Work with accounting to resolve any issues that can impact vendor payments.

All other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands / Work Environment

This position operates in a professional office environment with occasional work in the warehouse/factory. It requires occasional travel to supplier locations and sustained posture in a seated position for prolonged periods of time. The employee is required to lift up to 25 pounds.

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5–7 years of experience in procurement or purchasing, preferably in industrial automation, manufacturing, or a related industry.
  • Certification in Purchasing or Supply Chain Management (e.g., APICS) is a plus.
  • Proficiency in procurement software and ERP systems.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with internal teams and external suppliers.

Must perform duties with minimal direction if applicable.
