Tucson Electric Power Company is seeking a qualified supervisor for power plant maintenance and operations. You will lead a unionized workforce, oversee preventative and corrective maintenance, and manage outages and capital projects to ensure reliable generation.

Responsibilities include directing staff, coordinating with multiple sections, and ensuring safety, regulatory compliance and cost-effective operations across Tucson Power Production facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises staff and directs activities; manages safety, staffing and performance reviews.

  • Plans outages, procures parts, and oversees contractor work to completion.
  • Maintains budgets, records and cost analyses for the group.

Position Description

Supervises team responsible for the repair of mechanical, electrical and instrumentation & control equipment at all Tucson Power Production power plants, to ensure optimum generating capabilities. Leads union employees and maintains a safe and compliant work environment. They manage the day to day activities involving construction projects, preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance, maintenance outages/overhauls and other duties as assigned. Serves as a stakeholder in O&M and Capital projects to ensure compliance and acceptable results are produced.

Position-Related Responsibilities
  • Authorized and responsible to hire, promote, assign, and direct staff. Supervises employees and monitors activities; including safety, prioritizing, work flow allocation, staffing/scheduling, fatigue management and performance reviews.
  • Provides direction to employees; resolves technical question and employee relation issues to provide accurate and consistent direction and interpretations. Completes employee performance reviews and provides feedback to employees during mid-cycle updates; provides direction to employees; monitors workflow to minimize backlog and customer complaints.
  • Applies knowledge of assigned area and overall plant processes to resolve maintenance and operations problems.
  • Ensures all work is performed safely, environmentally compliant, per OEM recommendations, and consistent with industry best practices.
  • Reviews area operations to identify processes/procedures/operations improvements. Resolves problems considering time, equipment and tools/materials costs.
  • Recognizes and anticipates employee training needs to ensure that all team employees have skills necessary to ensure competency in all aspects of the job.
  • Provides assessment of employee training needs; recommends training plan and ensures employees obtain appropriate training as identified.
  • Coordinates and interfaces with other Power Generation sections to ensure maintenance and operations activities are scheduled effectively.
  • Identifies viable alternatives and plans activities to limit time delays, equipment downtime and load reduction. Demonstrates knowledge of plant processes by considering potential impact of all activities.
  • Plans for equipment outages by scheduling outside contractors and temporary staffing, procuring parts assigning work to team.
  • Ensures plant equipment is functioning as scheduled after outage.
  • Develops specification for work to be performed by outside contractors, oversees work in progress, and inspects work upon completion.
  • Assures work performed by outside contractors is completed to specification and on schedule.
  • Develops specifications, sources vendors and requisitions parts, supplies and equipment.
  • Procures highest quality parts, supplies and equipment at most the costeffective price.
  • Establishes and maintains appropriate records and record keeping systems.
  • Manages group budget to ensure cost effective use of resources. Maintains accurate and uptodate personnel, budget and job cost information. Estimates costs and analyzes actual cost variances from budget and explains differences.
  • This position may provide services to affiliates of the Company subject to the UNS Energy Code of Conduct and the related Policies and Procedures.
Management Responsibilities
  • Ensure that the Company's management principles, policies and programs are consistently practiced and continually support the Aff.
  • Assume fiduciary responsibility for operating the business and provide recommendations on cost improvement measures.
  • Ensure that the Performance Management program is administered uniformly and effectively.
  • Comply with and administer the terms and conditions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement when applicable.
  • Administers personnel functions, including recruiting, review and approval of job descriptions and salary classifications, and selection and placement of personnel. Participates in hiring, termination, promoting, assignment and direction of staff. Ensure compliance with all applicable local, state and federal laws, regulations and standards, company policies, practices and ethical obligations to investigate, evaluate and recommend appropriate resolution to employee complaints.
  • Promotes and participates in the professional development, personal growth and career planning of staff. Motivate, recognize and reward, coach, counsel, train; provide feedback to employees during performance reviews. Participates in Leadership Development programs.
  • Addresses disciplinary and/or performance issues, according to company policy, and communicates effectively with employees regarding corrective action. Has input into the adjustment of grievances and administration of discipline.
  • Plans day-to-day operations, estimates personnel needs and schedules and assigns work. Evaluate the structure and team plan for continual improvement of the efficiency and effectiveness of the group.
  • This position may provide services to affiliates of the Company subject to the UNS Energy Code of Conduct and the related Policies and Procedures.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

(Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.)

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid Driver License in good standing
  • Minimum six (6) years power plant experience as a Journeyman Mechanic, Welder, Machinist, Instrument Technician, Electrician, Control Room Operator, Maintenance Planner or Supervisor or equivalent experience in a related field.
  • Must possess computer skills necessary to complete job requirements.
  • Must possess effective verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelors Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering preferred

  • Knowledge of:
  • Plant processes and operations, equipment, parts and plant layout
  • Budget preparation and analysis techniques.

  • Regulatory requirements, TEP policies and procedures
