Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing; associates/diploma considered if a BSN is completed within 36 months.
  • Must possess current Michigan RN license.
  • Two years of clinical experience.
  • CPR certification by AHA or Red Cross.
  • Professional certification in applicable area within 60 months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Nursing Manager in meeting patient and employee needs within the department.
  • Plan, assign, and direct work and staffing to ensure patient care and workflow.
  • Conduct performance appraisals and support staff development.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance and participate in quality improvement activities.
  • Coordinate orientation, training, and continuing education for staff.
  • Maintain patient care using nursing processes and evidence-based leadership.
  • Assist with department/unit budgeting and policy development.

Position Summary

Assists the Nursing Manager in meeting patient and employee needs within the department/unit assigned.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Uses independent judgment to exercise authority on behalf of the Medical Center, or effectively recommend such action in the following areas:
  • May request, recruit, interview, make hiring decisions, and perform retention activities in regard to personnel for this area;
  • May discipline subordinates according to Medical Center procedure;
  • Responsible for assigning work to employees and directing the workflow in area of jurisdiction;
  • Attempts to resolve employee complaints/concerns;
  • Conducts periodic performance appraisal interviews with subordinates;
  • Recommends employee advancements/wage increases to Nursing Manager.
  • Demonstrates understanding and competence in all areas of Evidenced Based Leadership including: leader rounding, thank you notes, stoplight reports, 30/90 day conversations, leadership development institutes, linkage grids, skills validation, AIDET, hourly rounding, and High-Middle-Low conversations.
  • Responsible for and assists with the orientation, training and continuing education of employees in department/unit.
  • Plans for and facilitates staff nurse attendance at meetings.
  • Completes the monthly and daily staffing schedules as required; collaborates with Manager, other Coordinators, and/or Nursing Supervisors in regard to patient care assignments.
  • Assists in the administration of the departmental/unit budget.
  • Assists in assuring compliance with all regulatory and other agency requirements, laws, and statutes pertaining to the operation of the department/unit.
  • Assists with formulation and revision of unit policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Assists with the planning, development, implementation, and monitoring of unit specific competencies, as well as, department/unit activities.
  • Assists in providing for all of the patient clinical activities in the following areas:
  • Assessing patient/family needs;
  • Planning care based on needs;
  • Implementing planned care;
  • Evaluating and documenting outcome of care.
  • Assumes patient care assignment, as needed, utilizing the nursing process; participates in patient and/or family teaching.
  • Acts as a resource to the department/unit.
  • Identifies/assesses unstable or emergent conditions and initiates appropriate action.
  • Demonstrates personal responsibility and accountability for own professional practice; identifies learning needs in self and initiates actions to address educational needs.
  • Maintains a safe patient care environment.
  • Maintains membership on Medical Center committees, as assigned; participates in community activities/education.
  • Performs clinical and/or administrative functions specific to department/unit.
  • Performs house supervision duties as required and directed.
  • Facilitates and participates in performance improvement activities.
  • Provide for the age specific needs of the population served according to department standards , as evidenced by observation, documentation, and per feedback.

Qualifications
Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing.(Associates Degree/Diploma in nursing maybe considered provided Bachelor’s degree in nursing is successfully completed within thirty-six (36) months of hire/transfer
  • Must possess current Michigan RN license
  • Two (2) years clinical experience
  • CPR issued by American Heart Association or Red Cross Certification
  • Professional Certification in applicable area within sixty (60) months of hire/transfer

  • Previous supervisory experience
