Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Assists in recruitment, interview, selection and unit orientation for new department staff.
  • Plans and reviews staff work schedules; monitors day-to-day staffing and adjusts shifts to meet patient needs.
  • Maintains data on attendance and processes payroll corrections per unit standards.
  • Coaches and mentors staff; participates in annual performance reviews.
  • Facilitates patient throughput in admission/discharge/transfer processes and serves as clinical resource.
  • Addresses patient concerns and documents issues; escalates as needed to the unit leader.
  • Organizes unit meetings and communicates updates to promote team cohesion.
  • Supervises clinical care with high visibility to patients/families and staff; conducts rounds and captures patient experience feedback.
  • Identifies equipment and supply issues and coordinates with biomed/clinical support teams.
  • Supports policy adherence and regulatory compliance; conducts audits of records and unit logs.

The Supervisor also collaborates with other healthcare professionals to promote efficient and effective care delivery.

This role involves coordinating schedules, managing workflow, and providing guidance to nursing staff while maintaining compliance with hospital policies. The Supervisor also collaborates with other healthcare professionals to promote efficient and effective care delivery.

Responsibilities
  • Assists in the recruitment, interview, selection and unit specific orientation processes for new department team members.
  • Plans and assists with the development of the staff work schedules for unit leaders’ final review. Assists the unit leader with maintenance and monitoring of day to day staffing needs, reviewing upcoming shifts, and making recommendations for adjustments to work schedules to meet patient needs.
  • Maintains appropriate data on employee time and attendance, making payroll correction adjustments according to unit standards.
  • Under supervision of the unit leader, addresses employee behavioral issues timely and effectively, escalating to unit leader and documenting events to address corrective behavior.
  • Demonstrates ability to coach and mentor staff. Communicates in an effective, professional manner.
  • Participates in the annual performance review process for unit employees in a timely and effective manner.
  • Facilitates patient throughput in the admission/discharge/transfer process.
  • Serves as a clinical resource to the staff.
  • Address and resolve patient concerns or informal grievances, attempting to resolve issues immediately. Enters information into the safety event reporting system and investigates concerns timely, escalating feedback to the unit leader.
  • Organizes unit based shared governance meetings and drafts department unit meeting agendas to communicate updates, address concerns, and promote team cohesion.
  • Supervises clinical care provided by maintaining high visibility to patients/families and staff in the clinical area(s). Round on patients and families to validate services are provided consistently with expected standards. Communicates patient experience feedback or issues that need escalation in a timely manner.
  • Understands and communicates potential clinical equipment, IT equipment or supply issues to appropriate support team members (biomed, materials, sterile processing) and the unit leader.
  • Provides immediate support and education on policy, procedures, equipment or new products.
  • Supports activities needed to ensure adherence to regulatory standards and compliance with clinical patient care standards, policies and procedures.
  • Performs audits of medical records, clinical practice standards audits and unit logs to ensure accuracy.
Clinical Practice And Care Management
  • Performs psychosocial/physiologic patient assessments that integrates changing data. Supports the clinical team in transporting patients to different levels of care.
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to develop individualized plans of care, including patient education and discharge planning. Evaluates patient outcomes and makes revisions in the plan of care. Tailors and prioritizes caring practice to individual needs, including cultural/ ethical/ spiritual needs.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary rounds or huddles to support patients’ care management transitions throughout the healthcare settings.
  • Responds to changes in patient's needs and provides holistic care using independent clinical judgement based on knowledge drawn from education and experience.
  • Adapts planned educational programs and information to individual patients and family by modifying teaching strategies or content. Integrates education during the delivery of patient care. Collaborates with patients/ families to identify realistic desired outcomes.
  • Ensures efficiency in the delivery of care, determines immediate priorities and offers solution for problems.
  • Actively advocates for patient rights and identifies potential conflict.
  • Identifies variances from expected outcomes.
  • Documents all patient care activities as per documentation standards. Assists the healthcare team with the documentation process.
Communication And Collaboration
  • Coordinates and communicates clinical information related to risk issues, patient experience issues or other pertinent information to the department director, administration, case management, medical staff in a timely manner.
  • Appropriately delegates patient care activities to other health care team members and participates in making and revising staff assignments to achieve maximum productivity, as well as supporting learning for the orientees.
  • Maintains knowledge regarding unit initiatives and incorporates the outcomes of the team/committees work into organizational practice.
  • Participates on unit teams, work groups and/or service specific committees. Anticipates needs and voluntarily assists others on the unit.
Quality
  • Demonstrates knowledge of unit-based and organizational quality improvement initiatives.
  • Ensures quality improvement initiatives are followed by conducting audits of clinical practices, including detailed chart reviews utilizing standards, guidelines, and pathways for care delivery.
  • Incorporates evidence-based practice and research findings into nursing practice to enhance outcomes.
  • Perform patient experience rounds to ensure patients’ needs are met. Documents and communicates patient experience rounds in software or rounding log that need escalation in a timely manner.
Qualifications

Experience: 2 years of clinical experience including time in a charge nurse and preceptor role

Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing

License/Certification: Active state RN license, BLS
