Job description

Summary

This position must have basic knowledge of family medicine and be able to assess, plan, implement and evaluate care for patients. The role is responsible for the coordination of the MyMichigan Medical Group (MMG) and the Physician Enterprise family practice staff to assure high quality, compassionate patient care. The Supervisor RN will maintain and oversee employees and patients at the office location, act as a liaison with other subsidiary and organization personnel, order all medical and office supplies, and assure compliance with MyMichigan Medical Group, the Physician Enterprise, and Health Care System policies, including OSHA, CLIA, and corporate compliance. The Supervisor RN will coordinate and train new employees, including float staff, provide teaching to patients and family members, manage pain and symptom management, and handle office emergencies. Calls in prescriptions and teaches patients and families about medications and side‑effects, and ensures continuity of care with other providers. The role provides daily direction and problem solving to clinical and administrative staff and assists the practice manager in short‑range planning.

Responsibilities
  • (25%) The Supervisor RN coordinates and trains new employees, float staff, conducts coaching and disciplinary conversations, and assists with job performance reviews for all staff. Processes timekeeping in the Kronos system for bi‑weekly payroll, facilitates the hiring process and selection of new employees, and establishes the work schedule for clinic staff.
  • (25%) Performs clinical duties as needed, including triaging patient calls, reporting test results to patients, assessing patients, and serving as a liaison between the provider and patient.
  • (25%) Handles day‑to‑day clinical operations in the practice and utilizes critical thinking skills to resolve issues.
  • (25%) Interacts positively with patients and families, providing information so they may fully utilize and benefit from MPG services and MyMichigan Health services.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
  • Interacts positively with patients and families during severe stress situations.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking and integrates theory into practice for clinic patients.
  • Provides for the age‑specific needs of the population served according to department standards and policies as evidenced by observation, documentation, and peer feedback.
  • Understands necessary Epic computer functions in the office setting, dictation systems, and other programs to assist providers and staff.
  • Rooms patients during office visits and records all vital signs.
  • Assesses physical as well as social needs of patients.
  • Verifies patient demographic information and maintains clinical documentation according to MMG policies and procedures.
  • Provides teaching to patients and staff on subjects related to family medicine.
  • Provides coverage for the practice manager.
  • Manages patients with symptoms management and is available for care emergencies.
  • Calls in prescriptions and teaches patients and families about medication reasons and side‑effects.
  • Coordinates and ensures continuity of care with other providers, including patient admits and transfers to the medical center.
  • Serves as a resource to technical, clerical, and medical staff and identifies preventative maintenance needs for office equipment.
  • Assists in performance reviews of clinical staff and conducts follow‑up as appropriate.
  • Coordinates and ensures continuity of care with other providers.

Certifications and Licensures
  • BLS: Basic Life Support – within 1 month of hire or transfer
  • RN: Registered Nurse
Required Education

Associates degree is required; Bachelor's degree in nursing preferred.

Experience, Training and Skills
  • Previous management experience including coaching, leading and mentoring employees.
  • Leadership skills needed to effectively direct a group; interpersonal skills needed to communicate with individuals and groups at all levels.
  • PC software knowledge must include Excel and Word.
  • Knowledge of medical office policies, practices and procedures normally acquired through three to five years of work in the healthcare system or similar setting.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills needed to communicate successfully with individuals and interact with people at all levels.
  • Prefer 1 year of supervisory experience.
Physical/Mental Requirements and Typical Working Conditions
  • Exposure to stressful situations, including public contact, trauma, grief, and death.
  • Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute.
  • Can move freely about the facility with or without an assisted device and perform the functions of the job.
  • Overall vision and hearing are necessary with or without assisted devices.
  • Frequently required to sit, stand, or walk for long periods; may require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling, or crouching.
  • Some exposure to blood‑borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material; must follow MyMichigan Health blood‑borne pathogen and TB testing as required.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, work independently, maintain regular and predictable attendance, and stay awake.
  • Overall dexterity is required, including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering, and feeling; may require repetition of these movements regularly.
  • Physical Demand Level: Medium. Must be able to occasionally (0‑33% of the workday) lift or carry 21‑50 pounds.
