Job summary

Dover Food Retail is seeking a Supervisor, Materials to oversee inbound shipments, material movement and storage control. You will lead staff to meet objectives, implement visual management systems, and drive continuous improvement across warehouse operations.

Key tasks include inventory control, safety, cross-functional collaboration with purchasing and finance, and developing KPI metrics to measure performance and cost efficiency in a fast-paced distribution environment in Richmond, VA.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years’ experience in manufacturing, logistics, warehousing, or distribution.
  • 2+ years of supervisory experience.
  • B.S./BS degree in Business, Supply Chain, Engineering or Logistics preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage material inventory and spot checks as needed.
  • Help establish continuous improvement processes that reduce costs and improve quality.
  • Implement Supermarkets, Kanban’s and other visual management systems for materials.
  • Create, train, and implement standard work and SOPs to improve processes such as handler routes, waste reduction, and material control.
  • Apply best industry practices in safe handling of merchandise to minimize damage and identify new programs to differentiate customers.
  • Implement safety and security procedures to ensure a safe working environment and clean, neat, and safe warehouse.
  • Regularly manage material needs in terms of space, material flow, and labor required.
  • Partner with cross-functional partners to solicit feedback for program improvements.
  • Develop, communicate, and analyze departmental KPI metrics.
  • Consult with assigned clients to understand distribution networks and determine required logistics resources.
  • Coordinate with purchasing, finance, etc., for operations.
  • Conceive, present, and implement cost, stock and lead-time reduction projects.
  • Work with business development, field support, and customer service to handle complaints and maintain relationships.
  • Analyze technology and distribution network trends and implement changes.
  • Train and evaluate employees to enhance performance and development.
  • Address performance issues and recommend personnel actions.
  • Motivate and reward employees per company guidelines.
  • Recommend operating and personnel budgets for approval.
  • Root cause analysis and problem resolution for logistics operations.
  • Monitor quality, quantity, cost, and efficiency of movement and storage of goods.
  • Identify and address supplier shipment stock anomalies.
  • Maintain records of stock movements and daily cycle counts.

What we’re looking for

We are seeking a Supervisor, Materials who will be responsible for overseeing all inbound shipments, material movement and storage/control of materials. This person will also properly manage staff to meet all of the following requirements through standard processes, and process control, through strict adherence to division and corporate policies.

What you’ll be responsible for in this role

Manage material inventory and spot checks as needed.

Help establish continuous improvement processes that result in the most effective use of all resources, reducing costs, and improving quality.

Implement Supermarkets, Kanban’s and other visual management systems for materials.

Creates, trains, and implements standard work and SOPs to improve processes, such as, handler routes, waste reduction, and material control.

Apply best industry practices in the safe handling of merchandise to minimize damage; in addition to, to identify new and/or unique programs to differentiate customers from the marketplace and drive customer satisfaction.

Implement safety and security procedures to ensure a safe working environment and ensure the entire warehouse is clean, neat, and safe.

Regularly manage material needs in terms of space, material flow, and labor required

Partner with key cross‑functional partners to solicit customer and associates’ feedback to identify program improvement opportunities for implementation.

Develop, communicate, and analyze departmental key performance indicator metrics.

Consults with assigned clients to understand their distribution networks, and determine the logistics resources required to support equipment, safety, personnel and maintenance.

Exercise management and coordination functions with various company functions (purchasing, finance, etc.)

Conceive, present, and implement cost, stock and lead‑time reduction projects.

Work in conjunction with various parties such as business development, field support, and customer service to handle complaints and ensure support plans are in place to maintain long‑term customer relationships.

Analyze technology and distribution network trends and implements changes in department as appropriate.

Trains and evaluates employees to enhance their performance, development, and work product.

Address performance issues and make recommendations for personnel actions.

Motivate and reward employees according to company guidelines.

Recommend operating and personnel budgets for approval.

Root cause analysis and problem resolution for all logistics operations.

Monitor the quality, quantity, cost and efficiency of the movement and storage of goods.

Identify, and address any supplier shipment stock anomalies.

Keep accurate records of all stock movements for proper inventory control, including the management of a daily cycle count program.

What are the basic qualifications?
  • 5+ years’ experience in manufacturing, logistics, warehousing, or distribution environment
  • 2+ years of supervisory experience
What are the preferred qualifications?
  • B.S. Degree in Business, Supply Chain, Engineering or Logistics preferred.
