Job summary

Saab, Inc. is seeking a Materials Supervisor to lead a team of material handlers in receiving, stockroom, and shipping, ensuring accuracy, safety, and on-time delivery.

You will drive process improvements, train staff, manage KPIs, and partner with internal stakeholders to meet production schedules. Initially reporting to the Cranston facility with a Bristol expansion planned for 2027, travel between sites will be required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of relevant experience in the defense or aeronautics industry, or an Associate degree with 7+ years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Skilled in developing people and processes and building collaborative relationships.
  • Experience with stockroom management, including cycle counting.
  • Experience with safety management in a material handling or manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
  • Ability to work within standardized inventory procedures while collaborating with the team to develop and implement process changes as needed.
  • Experience managing a department in a metrics-driven environment.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems (Oracle preferred).
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to analyze and interpret data.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work in a team environment, multitask, and support concurrent priorities for internal and external customers.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to operate a forklift (pending internal training and certification).
  • Ability to obtain a Security Clearance, if required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead activities related to the receiving, storing, and shipping of materials or finished goods, as well as material movement.
  • Lead and develop material handlers and area processes.
  • Own training within the department, including the development of training tools and plans.
  • Advocate for a safety-first work environment by prioritizing safety in work processes, implementing specific ergonomic and safe handling practices, conducting routine safety talks, equipment training and audits, and partnering with the internal safety representative.
  • Incorporate 5S and 6S principles and controls throughout the departments.
  • Support packaging and shipping activities that comply with contractual requirements and company policy.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and colleagues to develop pack and ship schedules that satisfy program contract dates and on-time delivery (OTD) metrics.
  • Serve as the process owner for the correct receipt of all materials through incoming receiving, ensuring that purchase orders are accurately maintained and materials received are correct (e.g., part numbers, quantities, and damage-free condition).
  • Utilize inventory control measures, such as a cycle count program, to ensure inventory accuracy is maintained between the physical stockroom/warehouse inventory and the logical inventory in our MRP system.
  • Ensure stockroom materials are picked, prepared, and delivered to manufacturing to meet production schedules with a high level of quality and accuracy.
  • Establish, modify, and communicate standardized work, policies, and procedures, and lead continuous improvement initiatives within the department.
  • Be accountable for team performance metrics, including the collection of supporting data, analysis of actual performance versus targets, and development or modification of current metrics.
  • Report on metrics that monitor activities such as cycle counting and on-time delivery to internal and external customers.
  • Develop and execute action plans based on metrics analysis that drive performance improvement with a focus on process effectiveness.
  • Own key performance indicators (KPIs) that reflect the effectiveness of department activities and identify areas for continuous improvement.
  • Be responsible for effectively staffing the department to meet business goals and customer expectations.
  • Proactively identify staffing needs while partnering with Human Resources to recruit, interview, and hire candidates.
  • Develop specific training plans and provide regular employee feedback to support the development of receiving, stockroom, and shipping material handlers and business growth.
  • Support internal and external process audits in the incoming, stockroom, and shipping departments.
  • Collaborate with incoming inspection and program teams to ensure timely processing of materials to achieve business revenue goals.

As a Materials Supervisor, you will be a key member of the Supply Chain Management team and will have a direct impact on building teams and processes that drive performance across the receiving, stockroom, and shipping departments. The individual in this role will initially report to our Cranston facility until the opening of our Bristol facility in 2027. Travel between the Cranston and Bristol facilities will be required as needed.

Compensation Range: $89,000 - $111,200

The compensation range provided is a general guideline. When extending an offer, Saab, Inc. considers factors including (but not limited to) the role and associated responsibilities, location, and market and business considerations, as well as the candidate’s work experience, key skills, and education/training.

Skills and Experience:

Required Qualifications:

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Supply chain experience in the defense industry with exposure to the defense acquisition process.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop a team of direct reports and grow an organization from both a staffing and process perspective.

  • Experience with USG, DoD, or FAA contracts.

  • Experience participating in internal or external audits.

  • Cross-functional experience working with Quality, Safety, Engineering, Finance, Manufacturing, and Program Management teams.

  • Continuous Improvement certification (Black Belt or Green Belt preferred).

  • Experience interacting with programs and reporting to business leadership.

  • Understanding of import/export shipping and documentation.
