Job summary

Gruma Corporation in New Brighton, MN is seeking a Maintenance Supervisor to lead a team of leads and mechanics in daily preventive and corrective maintenance. You will ensure adherence to GMPs, safety, and company guidelines, while maintaining productive shifts and effective communication.

The role requires 3 years in maintenance with supervisory experience in manufacturing, plus PLC and electrical skills. A strong focus on safety, downtime reduction, and training of staff is essential.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, GED or Equivalent required. 3 years of experience in Maintenance in a manufacturing plant required.
  • Bakery or food/beverage manufacturing preferred.
  • 3+ years in a supervisory capacity (or 5 years as a lead) in manufacturing.

Supervises leads and mechanics in their daily activities of performing preventive maintenance and corrective actions. Ensures all Leads and Mechanics follow GMP’s, Safety, Food Safety, Operational and Company guideline/policies. Ensures all maintenance employees are productive, completing assignments, and adhering to procedures. Maintains daily checks and effective communication among shifts.

The duties of this position are those described below. This job description does not state or imply that the duties listed are the only duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Employees holding this position will be required to perform any other job-related duties as requested by management.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: These duties directly and substantially serve to achieve the purpose of the position.

  • Begins each day by reviewing log and communicating with outgoing supervisor or acting Lead as a Supervisor to determine condition of operations and priorities, the shift overlap must be at least 30 minutes before crew arrives, and the Supervisor will create a plan for his/her shift.
  • Supervisor after shift crew have done daily check list will evaluate and re-adjust plan for the shift re-assigning task to his/her crew.
  • Ensures that each mechanic knows what to do, is well informed about the plan for the shift and has enough work to fill his day.
  • Supervisor will create a list of predictive maintenance to be reviewed by Manager and it will be included in the Preventive maintenance for the week after being evaluated.
  • Ensures that the weekly preventive maintenance program is being followed and that all forms are being filled out correctly and completely.
  • Continually monitors and supervises lead men and mechanics throughout the day, with focus on work quality and efficiency.
  • Enforces all safety rules, good manufacturing practices, department, and company policy.
  • Monitors downtime reports issued by the Plant engineer, track downtime and work orders to lines and equipment, which operate most inefficiently.
  • Ensures that line team assignments are adhered to and that the concept of line and equipment ownership is in place. Holds mechanics accountable for these assignments and resulting equipment performance.
  • Conducts a supervisor’s daily tour of the assigned areas of the plant at the beginning of his shift and fill out work orders for the equipment deficiency.
  • Assists lead men and mechanics when and if necessary, during repairs.
  • Must be able to perform electrical responsibilities and comply with OSHA regulations.
  • Must be able to execute functions of Allen Bradley Panel View use & programming AB Servo and AB VFD drives.
  • Train mechanics on an ongoing basis wherever the need arises, as directed by the department training program.
  • Ensures that mechanics follow spare parts ordering and sign out procedures whenever they use spare parts. Periodically inspects parts bins of the equipment his shift PMs to note shorted items and re-order.
  • Monitors, inspects, and ensures shop parts storage areas and supervisor office areas are maintained in clear, neat, and organized condition.
  • Monitors and manages employee overtime on his shift to achieve stated objective: 15 hrs. /wk. for each I, II, and III shifts.
  • Monitors work orders throughout the day to see if they can be accomplished. Reviews work orders to insure first in first out service. Prioritizes work orders regarding Safety, Quality, and scheduling.
  • Ensures all required paperwork is completed correctly. Keeps open lines of communication with the plant employees and management. Understands that documentation is the foundation of the department and is essential to its function.
  • The objectives of the maintenance supervisor are:
  • Standardize the operation and function of each shift by adhering to department programs and procedures.
  • Accomplished as much weekly PM as is possible.
  • Complete as many work orders per day as is possible.
  • Must be able to perform all duties maintenance personnel is tasked with from daily PM’s to executing work orders.
  • Supervisor will make sure to fill and have fill all daily check (inspections for lines and building, pre-flights, etc.)
  • Supervisor will make sure to maintain all areas clean and organized all the time during the shift, especially for the shift change.
  • Supervisor will review ADP to create next week schedule on Fridays will be posted with the Manager approval.
  • Supervisor on Mondays before 10 AM must have all personnel assigned reviewed their attendance from previous week in ADP and a correction must be presented by email to HR.
  • Essential need to be familiar with encoders, networks, and Ethernet controls.
  • Required to install, troubleshoot, and maintain PLC programming specifically with Allen Bradley, RS-Logix 5000, RS-Logix 500, ControlLogix, and SLC; Must trained personnel on PLC’s.
  • Have the lowest downtime per shift & per equipment assigned.
  • Meet or exceed overtime objective.
  • Score 175 or higher on A I. B. maintenance sanitation.
  • Follow (LO/TO) all Safety procedures and Company Safety Policy.
  • Conducts Monthly Safety Training
  • Responsible for Injury and Illness reporting within 24 hours and analysis/investigations within 48 hours.
  • Will be required to understand the maintenance mechanics role and be hands on supervisor and cross training maintenance representatives.
  • Responsible for ensuring the operation of the production department meets the standards in Quality, Safety, Food Safety, Environmental Management Systems (EMS), Cost, and is delivered to the warehouse in full and on time. TheMaintenance Supervisor ensures the headcount requirements are met and that a good working atmosphere is maintained
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma, GED or Equivalent required. 3 years of experience in Maintenance in a manufacturing plant required. Bakery or food/beverage manufacturing preferred. With a minimum of 3 years of experience in a supervisory capacity (or 5 years as a lead) in a manufacturing environment required. Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience may be considered for the above.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Ability to read electrical diagrams, have good electrical skills on power and control
  • Proficiency in electrical and PLC troubleshooting/programming
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal electric codes
  • Experience with regulatory inspectors: AIB, BRC, OSHA, Military, Health Department, EPA, City & County Inspectors)
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions
  • Ability to work flexible hours to manage a 3-shift operation required
  • Ability to work in a Diverse Environment
  • Knowledge in SAP, KRONOS preferred
