Job summary

The New York State Police is seeking a Supervisor Forensic Services in the Toxicology section of the Forensic Investigation Center in Albany.

You will oversee the technical and scientific functions of all toxicology analyses, supervise testing procedures and reporting, and resolve analytical challenges while ensuring training, quality assurance, safety and compliance with ANSI/ANAB, ISO standards and NYS DCJS requirements.

Qualifications

  • A Master’s Degree in a Natural, Physical, or Forensic Science, Administration (e.g. Public Administration, Business Administration, or Criminal Justice) or Computer Science;
  • AND
  • Have a minimum of four (4) years satisfactory experience performing the duties of a Forensic Scientist or its equivalent in another laboratory.
  • OR
  • Ten (10) years satisfactory experience performing the duties of a Forensic Scientist or its equivalent in another laboratory may be considered as a substitute for a Master’s Degree.
  • Minimum qualifications must be met by the closing date of the posting.
  • Any employee assigned to any lab will be required to undergo additional pre-employment screenings including a urine drug screening and polygraph.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the administration of the technical and scientific operations of the Toxicology section, including supervision of a team of Forensic Scientists following forensic laboratory procedures and preparing reports of forensic findings.
  • Provide oversight of the Breath Calibration Program, including supervision of a team of Forensic Scientists, in the preparation of breath calibration reports, monitoring of related quality assurance activities, and compliance with state regulations.
  • Responsible for technical problem solving of analytical methods and for the oversight of training, quality assurance, safety, and proficiency testing in the laboratory.
  • Responsible for continuing education programs and serves as a resource person for criminal justice personnel and other traffic safety partners.
  • Provide overall section case management.
  • Consult with the Associate Director/Quality Assurance regarding laboratory quality issues and accreditation matters.
  • Perform other related duties as directed by the Director, Assistant Director, Associate Director (Toxicology), or Laboratory Captains.
