Job summary

Job description


  • Supervise daily operations of the regional Clinical Documentation Integrity program

  • Provide direct oversight of Clinical Documentation Specialists and Clinical Documentation Integrity Coordinators

  • Assess CDI staffing levels and processes and ensure regional goals are achieved using compliant workflows

  • Assist with policy and education development regarding documentation requirements, reimbursement and clinical data quality

  • Monitor quality and productivity and participate in performance improvement initiatives

  • Train and educate clinical documentation specialists on clinical and coding skills and 3M CDI software

  • Schedule colleagues, assign work, manage time-off and schedule-change requests, and maintain attendance records

  • Coordinate external resources when used

  • Facilitate training for new Clinical Documentation Specialist hires

  • Assist with recruitment, retention, staff development, performance feedback, mentoring, competency assessments, evaluations, counseling and conflict resolution

  • Educate physicians and healthcare team members on clinical documentation and monitor provider participation

  • Collaborate with coding staff to ensure complete discharge diagnoses, comorbidities and accurate DRG assignment

  • Maintain expertise in MS-DRG, CCs/MCCs, ICD-10 coding systems and CDI guidelines

  • Collect, aggregate and analyze data and monitor process outcomes, quality and productivity

  • Ensure compliance with coding guidelines, regulatory directives and clinical validation requirements

  • Maintain superuser skills in 3M/360 and use dashboards and reporting to improve team efficiency

  • Perform CDI reviews during high-volume or short-staffing periods

  • Maintain knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, Trinity Health policies, integrity program and Code of Ethics


Requirements


  • Bachelor's Degree in Health Information Management, Healthcare related field or Nursing or equivalent in experience

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) License, Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Certified Coding Specialists (CCS), licensure as a physician assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner/Advanced Practice Nurse (NP/APN), or completion of medical school

  • Certified Clinical Documentation Specialists (CCDS) or Certified Documentation Improvement Professional (CDIP) preferred

  • Minimum of five (5) years of current hospital clinical documentation integrity program experience

  • Two (2) or more years of current experience supervising hospital clinical documentation integrity program

  • Thorough knowledge of CMS regulations, coding guidelines and DRG reimbursement

  • Knowledge of state and federal Hospital Acquired Conditions (HAC) and applicable quality indicator codes (PSI, PPI, etc.)

  • Current expertise with 3M CDI Software; working knowledge of Epic EMR preferred

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills

  • Ability to effectively supervise diverse and geographically dispersed teams both onsite and remote

  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills

  • Intermediate computer skills, including MS Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-customer environment with conflicting needs and varied or extended hours

  • Ability to comply with enterprise policies and procedures

  • Strong understanding of the Catholic health ministry and changing reimbursement market
