The role requires an associate degree in a related field, 3 years in sterile processing with 1 year in supervision, and CRCST certification.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises all sterilization processes from decontamination to storage.
  • Monitors work in progress to ensure sterile processing standards and corrects issues.
  • Coordinates staffing schedules and weekend coverage with other supervisors.
  • Collaborates with departments to resolve instrument problems and shortages.
  • Develops processes meeting patient and user department needs within budget.
  • Manages inventory and procurement; assists Purchasing with trade‑outs.
  • Participates in policy development for Sterile Processing.
  • Manages personnel functions: hiring, appraisals, training, discipline, terminations.
  • Performs other related duties.

Description

The Supervisor CSPD plans and coordinates activities involved in the decontamination, storage, assembly, cleaning and sterilization of medical, surgical and related supplies utilized in the care and treatment of patients. Ensures that processes utilized comply with the department and Mount Sinai Medical Center’s policies and procedures and develops processes that meet the needs of the patients, physicians and other user departments

Responsibilities

1. Supervises all sterilization processes such as decontamination, cleaning, assembly, wrapping, sterilization, storage and distribution of all supplies and equipment handled in the department

2. Monitors and checks work in progress to ensure adherence to sterile processing standards and procedures; takes action as needed to correct problems

3. Collaborates with other supervisors to coordinate staffing schedules and to ensure adequate coverage is provided, including weekends

4. Works closely with other departments and related personnel in coordinating sterile processing activities and resolving instrument problems and supply needs and shortages

5. Develops processes that meet the needs of patients, physicians and user departments within targeted productivity and budget parameters

6. Maintain and monitor inventory. Orders supplies and equipment within authorized expense parameters. Assists the Purchasing Department with obtaining information needed for trade‑outs or purchase of equipment and supplies. Makes minor equipment and instrument repairs in area of responsibility

7. Participates in the development of departmental policies and standards related to Sterile Processing.

8. Manages various personnel functions such as hiring, performance appraisals, training, disciplinary actions and terminations. Facilities staff participation in presentation of inservices.

9. Performs other related duties

Compensation

The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides salary ranges that comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $58661 - $73471 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and operational need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
