Job summary

Job description

Supervisor Asphalt Plant Operations

The Supervisor Asphalt Plant Operations has responsibility for the oversight of asphalt production at their assigned location. The incumbent will run/monitor daily production, quality control, maintenance, safety, and personnel associated with the facility and assist the Asphalt Production Manager as needed. The individual must have the ability to resolve any unscheduled maintenance issues. The individual must be available to work any schedule as the work demands dictates, Monday through Sunday, days, early mornings, late nights, night work, overnight repairs, and weekends are required. The individual must practice absolute confidentiality. Good judgment and common sense is required in all duties and any other tasks as assigned and directed by the Manager Asphalt Production. Minimal overnight travel (up to 10%) as required. This job description provides an overview of responsibilities and task to be performed. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Safety and Housekeeping

1. Complies with all safety policies, procedures and established safe practices and ensures that all direct reports do the same. Reports all unsafe conditions and actions to a supervisor and/or the Manager Safety and Health.

2. Trains, develops, and monitors the safety practices (including PPE) of own employees through regularly scheduled safety meetings, one on one development, reminders, and disciplinary action, if necessary.

3. Follows all requirements listed in the Supervisor Safety Procedures Manual (SSPM) including, but not limited to, safety training, emergency procedures, accident reporting and investigation, and employee observations.

4. Ensures compliance of production staff with all policies and procedures, OSHA, MSHA, and NCDOT guidelines.

5. Maintains a clean and orderly work area and meets other housekeeping needs as required by Sunrock, MSHA 30 CFR 56.20003, and OSHA 29 CFR 1910.22 and ensures that all direct reports do the same.

Operational

1. Becomes proficient in the batching sequence and controls of the the Astec Weighmate TC 2000 and the PM2 and 3 Systems.

2. Becomes proficient in the order taking and dispatching of asphalt and aggregates in Command Alkon’s Integra system.

3. Performs daily, weekly and monthly site, plant, and equipment inspections: 1) Anticipates, plans, and schedules regular plant maintenance, such as but not limited to: general (minor and major) mechanical repair, welding, cutting, electrical repair, and preventative maintenance. 2) Troubleshoots and repairs scheduled and unscheduled maintenance problems. 3) Monitors for environmental compliance, correcting and reporting all deficiencies. 4) Performs regular inspections of raw materials and finished product to include temperature and quality of product.

Administrative

1. Ensures adequate and accurate supply of raw materials with quarry operations, asphalt and various other suppliers. This includes, but is not limited to, daily physical measurement of storage silos, aggregate piles.

2. Exhibits professional communication methods with telephone orders, waiting on customers, intercompany haulers, and customer agents.

3. Mentors and develops employees to ensure that they meet Sunrock’s expectations for performance, safety and housekeeping, and efficiency.

4. May assist Manager in hiring, training and team development, disciplinary actions and terminations of the facility’s workforce.

5. Coordinates and communicates with all other company functions as needed to ensure efficiency and effectiveness of operation.

6. a) Prepares regular reports on plant production, cash reconciliations maintenance, operation, and personnel. b) Generates and communicates coherent performance development reviews, counseling reports, email, and all other communication as required in a timely and professional manner. c) Participates in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals. d) Performs other duties as assigned. e) Provides leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.
  • Associate degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year (2) college or technical school preferred.
  • One (1) to two (2) years of related experience and/or training required. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
  • Current North Carolina Driver’s License required
  • Ability to obtain weighmaster license
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
  • Ability to read, analyzes, and interprets general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations in English. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals in English. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Proficient personal computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, prioritizes, organizes, and delegates assignments.
  • Mechanically and electrically inclined.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical activity will be moderate while performing both somewhat strenuous daily activities of a primarily product/technical nature and administrative in nature.
