Job summary

Good Samaritan in Tyndall, SD is seeking an Activities Supervisor to oversee resident activities and staff scheduling in a dual role within the nursing department. This part-time position (16 hours weekly) offers benefits and a $5,000 sign-on bonus.

You will create and implement activities, coordinate volunteers, and align care plans with residents' needs while ensuring safety, dignity, and engagement through music, crafts, spiritual activities, and outings.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree preferred; two years in this field preferred.
  • Experience with diverse resident demographics and social services or creative activities.
  • At least one year of leadership/management experience preferred.
  • Therapeutic recreation or activities certification eligibility may be required by location.
  • Current CNA certification or student in healthcare program preferred; BLS.
  • Valid driver's license and clean motor vehicle record may be required per location.
  • Must comply with Sanford Driving Policy driving functions.

Responsibilities

  • Create and implement resident activities and events.
  • Manage activity staff schedules and coordinate volunteers.
  • Develop and view resident care plans related to activities.
  • Complete activity assessments and MDS questions as required.
  • Communicate department activities to employees and leadership promptly.
  • Enhance residents' quality of life through meaningful activities.
  • Oversee monthly activity calendar and adapt to state requirements.
  • Assist with nursing procedures and transport residents when needed.
  • Lead and motivate staff, handling challenging residents.

Department Details

This position will have have dual responsibilities of the activities supervisor along with the scheduling of the nursing department. This will be a FT role eligible for benefits!

Job Summary

Creates and implements resident activities and events. Manages activity staff schedules and coordinates volunteer staffing and activities. Creates and views resident care plans around activities. Completes activity assessments and Minimum Data Set (MDS) questions as required. Reports problems, concerns and information to leadership in an appropriate and timely manner. Communicates department activities and information to employees. Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strives to improve the quality of life for the residents by providing appropriate, meaningful activities and interventions on a one-on-one and/or group basis. Administers the monthly activity calendar. Regularly elicits residents input into activity planning and keeps activities well organized and upbeat, following all state required activities such as music, craft and spiritual activities. Partakes in activities such as fishing, nature walks, pet therapy, music therapy and others in order to support residents and ensure they are functioning at an optimal level while also maintaining dignity and identity. Assists with simple nursing procedures and transporting residents to and from rooms. Demonstrates leadership abilities such as developing and motivating people. Possesses the ability to work with strong willed residents and/or behavioral issues. Maintains strong critical thinking skills and problem solving skills. Prioritizes responsibilities while working autonomously. Plans and oversees the utilization of resources and designs of work processes.

Qualifications

Associate degree preferred. Two years experience in this field preferred. Knowledge of working with a wide variety of resident demographics. Experience in social services or creative activities. Minimum of one year previous leadership/management experience preferred. When working in a skilled, long term care facility, must be eligible for certification as a therapeutic recreation specialist or activities professional by a recognized accrediting body. Successful completion of an accredited training program approved by state preferred. The following requirements are all dependent upon the on work location: Current Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) certification or currently enrolled as a student in a healthcare related program preferred. Basic Life Support (BLS). Depending on location, this role classifies as a Sanford Category I or II Driver requiring a motor vehicle report and proof of valid driver’s license. Also must be medically qualified to perform the essential driving functions of this position as per our Sanford Driving Policy.
