San Bernardino County is seeking a Supervising Probation Officer to oversee a team of Probation Officers and staff, assigning and evaluating work, and ensuring compliance with department policies. The role involves training and coordinating with division leadership to manage workload and performance.

This recruitment is only open to current San Bernardino County, San Bernardino County Fire Protection District, or Special Districts employees who hold a regular, contract, extra-help, recurrent, Public Service Employee, Work Experience Program (WEX), or intern position. The Probation Department is recruiting for Supervising Probation Officers who perform a wide variety of departmental supervisory duties including organizing, assigning, reviewing and evaluating work performed by Probation Officers and assigned staff. Incumbents conduct orientation or in-service training; explain and interpret departmental policies and procedures; assess staff development needs; and confer with Division Directors regarding assignment of personnel, workload, employee performance and unit problems. Availability: May be assigned to institutions or special programs and may be assigned shift or variable work, including weekend and holiday hours.
Peace Officer Status: Have peace officer status and must be willing to complete the department's arming training and accept an armed position.
Background: Must meet peace officer requirements (P.C. 832) and pass an extensive background investigation.
Body Art Policy: While on duty, employees shall not have visible body modifications or body art, including but not limited to tattoos, piercings, stretching, branding, beading or implantation, and scarification. All body art must be completely covered while on duty by clothing, a skin-colored patch no larger than three (3) inches by three (3) inches, or skin-colored cosmetic makeup.
Travel: A valid California Class C Driver License is required to carry out the essential job-related functions of this position. Proof of automobile liability insurance must be maintained.

EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years of experience as a Probation Officer III within San Bernardino County.
The ideal candidate will possess diverse experience as a Probation Officer and maintain current Peace Officer status. The candidate should have experience in juvenile, adult, and administrative assignments; demonstrate strong leadership skills; and work effectively as a member of a team. Excellent oral and written communication skills are also required. The candidate must be willing to accept an armed position.
