Current employees in the unclassified service in the County of Los Angeles who meet the following criteria also qualify to participate in this exam:

  • Unclassified employees who have attained permanent County status on a classified position by successful completion of the initial probationary period, with no break in service since leaving the classified service.
  • Full-time employees in the unclassified service with at least six months of full-time experience in the unclassified service at the time of filing.

THE TEAM MEMBER WE ARE SEARCHING FOR:

We are looking for an individual to fill the Supervising Orthopedic Technician position. Responsibilities include supervising orthopedic technicians, ensuring quality orthopedic services, managing budgets, training staff, and supporting clinical operations.

  • Provides administrative supervision, including shift assignments, evaluations, and grievance resolution.
  • Serves as a technical resource on orthopedic devices.
  • Prepares budget requests and recommends staffing and equipment needs.
  • Participates in hiring and evaluates technician work quality.
  • Plans and conducts training for staff and trainees.
  • Represents the unit in meetings and coordinates with other departments.
  • Explains procedures to patients and documents care in medical records.
  • Makes decisions on orthopedic equipment needs based on provider orders.
  • Maintains equipment and assists in surgeries and emergency care.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Option I: Three (3) years of experience as an Orthopedic Technician, planning, fabricating, and applying orthopedic devices.

-OR-

Option II: One (1) year as a Senior Orthopedic Technician providing oversight and advanced orthopedic work.

LICENSE:

A valid California Class C Driver License or alternative transportation method.

PHYSICAL CLASS:

Class III – Moderate: standing/walking most of the time, occasional lifting over 25 pounds, frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.

Desirable Qualifications:
  • Additional experience beyond minimum requirements.
  • Certificate from an approved orthopedic training program.
  • Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association.

EXAMINATION CONTENT:

Evaluation based on application, qualifications, and supplemental questionnaire, weighted 100%.

Passing score is 70%.

ELIGIBILITY AND VACANCY INFORMATION:

Any shift, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
