Job summary

Carrington College Dental Hygiene Clinic seeks an Attending Dentist to supervise student treatment and oversee clinical care. You will provide supervision, review medical histories, authorize radiographs, and guide minor procedures during student-led care.

The role involves collaborating with instructors, selecting patients for sealants, managing emergencies, and ensuring safety with NO2O and local anesthesia. California licensed dentists with BLS/CPR and ADA CODA qualifications are preferred.

Qualifications

• Dentist with DDS/DMD degree.
• Must hold current dental license in State of California.
• Current BLS and CPR card.
• Meet educational requirements as specified by ADA CODA and other regional accrediting agencies.
• At least three years field experience.
• Teaching experience or training desirable.

Responsibilities

• Provide clinical supervision for patient care performed by students.
• Consult with students, instructors and Clinic Coordinator on medical history and medications.
• Refer patients for medical/dental consultations as necessary.
• Discuss findings with students and patients; identify deviations from normal.
• Provide dental screenings for clinic patients.
• Authorize radiographs and manage films.
• Evaluate radiographs with the team and share findings with patients as appropriate.
• Evaluate radiographs against program criteria.
• Select patients for sealant application and refer to comprehensive exams or emergencies.
• Assist with minor dental procedures (temporary fillings, crown re-cements, sealant adjustments).
• Attend to soft tissue injuries and monitor NO2O and Local Anesthesia administration.
• Review nitrous oxide/oxygen system logs with the clinical team.

Dentists provide clinical supervision for patient care at Carrington College Dental Hygiene Clinic when treatment is being

provided by students.

• Manage with the assistance of the clinical instructor and/or Clinic Coordinator any medical history or
• Consult with student, clinical instructors and the Clinic Coordinator regarding medical history, medication,
• Refers patients for medical/dental consultations as necessary.
• Consult with students, clinical faculty and the patient on extra-oral and intra-oral findings which deviate from normal.
• Provides appropriate dental screenings for clinic patient.
• Authorizes radiographs, provides prescription and supplies appropriate number of films.
• Evaluates, interprets and discusses radiographs with the student, clinical instructor and shares findings with the patient when appropriate.
• Evaluates radiographs based on program criteria.
• Evaluates and selects appropriate patients for sealant application.
• Refers all patients for comprehensive dental examination or immediate referral in case of emergency.
• Provides treatment and assists with minor dental procedures as necessary such as:
• Placement of temporary filling material
• Re-cementation of a crown etc.
• Adjustment of sealant material
• Tends to soft tissue injuries.
• Observes and evaluates NO2O and Local Anesthesia administration by students.
• Evaluates nitrous oxide/oxygen tank system with the clinical assistant and documents logs.

Compensation:

The starting pay range for this position is $50.00 per hour.
