Job summary

Kiewit is seeking a Civil Superintendent to oversee field operations on heavy civil projects across the Southeast. You will lead crews, coordinate with subcontractors, manage materials, and ensure safety and quality on a travel-heavy assignment.

The role requires 5+ years in civil construction (2+ in supervision), strong communication, and the ability to relocate as projects demand. Projects include bridges, drainage, and roadwork with a focus on Zero Harm.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma required; bachelor’s in construction management or related field preferred.
  • 5+ years in civil construction with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
  • Experience operating major grading equipment.
  • Experience on bridges, roads or related projects.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Willingness to travel and relocate based on project needs.
  • Experience in design-build projects.
  • Slope repair experience with large rip rap preferred.
  • Experience in mountainous terrain and narrow logistics corridors.

  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to meet objectives.
  • Monitor progress, quality, and productivity; implement corrective actions.

  • Mentor and develop field staff to build a strong team.

Position Overview

The Superintendent is responsible for managing and supervising all field operations on a heavy civil projects such as large-scale hurricane repair job to include pedestrian trail reconstruction, bridges, drainage etc. This role ensures that work is executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with project specifications and schedules. The Civil Superintendent serves as the primary leader in the field, coordinating crews, subcontractors, and resources to deliver high-quality results while fostering a culture of safety and teamwork.

District Overview

Location

This role is a traveling position. You can live in any location, as project subsistence and travel home will be provided.

Responsibilities
  • Direct and oversee daily field activities, including scheduling, workforce allocation, and equipment management.

  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to achieve project objectives.

  • Prepare and maintain accurate documentation, including daily reports and timecards.
  • Mentor and develop field staff to build a strong, capable team.
Qualifications
  • Education: High school diploma required; bachelor’s degree in construction management or related field preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience in civil construction, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
  • Capable of operating major grading equipment.
  • Has experience working on mountainous terrain.
  • Must have experience working on bridges,roads or related.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to travel and relocate based on project needs.
  • Experience in design-build.
  • Experience in slope failure repair, preferably with large rip rap
  • Experience in narrow corridors that require additional attention to logistics
